A former employee of Standard Bank Namibia is being held in custody after appearing in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on 12 counts of fraud.
The state is alleging that Pia Atshipara (44), who was arrested on Wednesday last week and appeared in court on Thursday, defrauded Standard Bank Namibia by transferring an amount of N$4 million from the accounts of 10 of the bank’s clients to her own accounts between April and August 2024.
Magistrate Helvi Shikalepo ordered that Atshipara should be held in custody after public prosecutor Edel Upindi informed the court that the state is opposed to her being granted bail, due to the seriousness of the charges against her.
Atshipara, who is represented by defence lawyer Gehas Katoma, has to appear in court again on 18 May, after her case was postponed for further investigations to be carried out.
