“Morning Francois, we have the following cars we want you to take for a drive, the “M” from BMW, the Mini Cooper, the GWM or the Honda Civic Sport”.Since Honda is an eye-catching car (not that the others are not), I without hesitation said: “Let Top Revs take that Civic Sport with its stylised yet aggressive look”.On entering their showroom in Independence Avenue, senior sales executive Rieduwaan van Wyk welcomed Top Revs and offered his own personal demo-model for a day or two to enjoy and experience what the 1,5L seven-speed CVT gearbox is all about. After a short introduction, it was time to take on the road towards Okahandja to see, feel and experience this 127kW 1,5L turbo under the hood on the open roads. For starters, the engine is extremely smooth with hardly any cabin noise, making the road so much more enjoyable. The car's seven-speed CVT gearbox makes the drive much more pleasurable while at the same time saving fuel. I guess with the current fuel prices, and rumours of more price increases, the Civic must be somewhere in your budget planning. The car's fuel consumption on normal driving conditions is calculated at under six litres per 100km, equating to CO2 emissions of 140 grams per kilometre. Keeping and saving the environment from harmful emissions is key to Honda, hence all the “econ-friendly buttons”. These are not only a reminder of a cleaner driving experience, but they also help save fuel when driving with the air conditioner on in town. The seven-speed CVT gearbox is the latest technology used by Honda and provides a smoother driving experience compared to the old conventional automatic gearboxes. During the test drive on the dual carriageway towards Okahandja, Top Revs only noticed the car changed gears on the rev counter, without feeling the actual gear shifts.Other impressive features are the attention to detail both inside and outside the car.Inside, Honda surely went to great lengths with their research and development of the interior. What impressed me most was the hidden space for the USB and HDMI chargers neatly tucked away behind the centre console and space to hide the charging cables while charging electronic devices. The headlights are more than eye-catching and appealing. They give that impression of a predator watching its prey – a bit of aggressiveness with the distinctive “H” the Honda logo entered on the black grill. While the rear lights are complemented with a colour-coded boot spoiler to add the title to the car's Honda Civic Sport.Road safety is priority to all manufacturers and Honda made sure that all occupants in the car are protected against any incidents like a crash and the cars are all fitted with airbags (in this case six airbags), LED lights, parking sensors and a reverse camera.Contrary to belief that the airbags are more than sufficient in case of an incident to protect, Van Wyk called on both drivers and passengers to always use the safety belt for optimum protection. The Honda Civic range comes in various models ranging from the 1,8 comfort CVT to the 1,5 executive sport and are available at all Honda dealers across Namibia. To ease the mind of any owner or potential owner Honda owners can take their car for a service at any of the Pupkewitz Nissan motor dealers across Namibia van Wyk assured Top Revs when asked what about owners in the rest of this vast country.
