When Comrades Are Wrong

When Comrades Are Wrong

DEAR Editor, your Political Perspective of Friday hit the nail on the head. Whither to, Namibia? It is no more the country we hoped Swapo would turn it into. Greed, power, victimisation, wealth, and tribalism and rooting of state funds have become the order of the day.

Politicians today defend this and that because they have vested interest to line their pockets. We have seen it coming. In the mid Nineties when I fully believed Swapo could deliver if given time, I vividly recalls coinage of the phrase ‘A comrade is never wrong ‘ which was and has been an open secret within the Swapo circles. The writing was on the wall. How can we progress if a comrade is never wrong? That is why today we have even those independent minded people in the ruling party who dare to differ with those at the political core of the party, often toe the line. In fact we are turning into just another African country. The themes in George Orwell’s ‘Animal Farm’ and 1984 just reflect what is currently happening in Namibia.Like in ‘Animal Farm’, we, and especially Swapo, at the birth of independence, professed to protect the noble principles of democracy. We boasted that it was us Swapo who brought democracy. Now, the very same democracy we so proud to have brought, sounds to be not so much a noble idea after all.Today you only seen as patriotic if you belong to Swapo, which is definitely a fallacy.People decide to form a political party, and bingo, ‘don’t give them water’ and ‘we will cut their tails’ Some of them even lost their jobs. Lest we forget these are fellow Namibians with families and school-going children to support and we happily say don’t even buy in their shops. Mind you, there are people whose livelihood depends on these shops. What utter selfishness and visionless leadership?I don’t support RDP but the party is now being accused of misleading the nation. Which I have not heard of it doing since the party is denied access to NBC the prime broadcaster of the nation. As far as I am concerned it is Swapo which is misleading the Namibian nation.Realising now that many people are literate and have access to information Swapo is now trying to deny the literate populace relevant information apart from its own propaganda.Apartheid loathed educated men who knew and expressed his rights. Swapo is copying the same tactics. NBC TV is what Swapo does, and they think we have been informed. In fact we have been misled. Deny them the right information and feed them with what you want them to hear. NBC is now being used in the same way it was used by the then South African regime. Our rights as citizens no longer seem to matter. And now through the ‘Spy Bill’ big brother is now watching your every communication. The state is afraid of its own citizenry. What have we done to deserve this fellow Namibians?A PatriotVia e-mailNote: Name and address provided – Ed
