It’s the song that plays when you’re walking down the aisle or when you and your partner are getting onto the dance floor to show everyone your awesome skills.
Remember the awesome moves that Solange Knowles and her son broke it down to Rae Sremmurd’s ‘No Flex Zone’? Memorable, right? Some couples opt for trendy songs and impress the guests with a co-ordinated routine, while others prefer to take it down a notch with a slow dance.
What’s a wedding without Brenda Fassie’s ‘Wedding Day’? For Sakeus Shakes Bantwini, this song was in his history, but perhaps a ‘maybe’ for the future. “That song went well on my folks’ wedding and it has a lot of hype.
It’s energetic and danceable but with teens these days, I would choose Michael Bolton or Don Williams as my second option. Let the bride choose!” Henok Pangeiko couldn’t help but agree that ‘Wedding Day’ was his wedding song, no question about it.
But for Peter Katonyala, a slow jam to make the guests cry was in the works for him. “’Tonight’ by Westlife. In other words, tonight is our night. Tonight we are finally one. Tonight we make love ‘till the break of dawn. Tonight is the night we finally start our journey as ‘one’. Tonight is the night.” Clearly, he cannot wait for ‘tonight’!
Another Westlife fan is Keya Katshinatsha who chose ‘Written in the Stars’.
Foibe Ndilokelwa ya David prefers Shania Twain’s ‘From This Moment On’. “The song’s lyrics basically read like wedding vows: “I give my hand to you with all my heart. Can’t wait to live my life with you, can’t wait to start. You and I will never be apart. My dreams came true because of you.’ Shania Twain nailed it all.”
If you’re looking for wedding vows, maybe that song might help!
Another sweet song in the works for Precious Kawana’s wedding is ‘Breathless’ by Shayne Ward. “It’s a beautiful song. Everything about the lyrics speaks about how beautiful love is and how these two souls have finally met and have completed each other. I would love to dance to this song with my husband on my wedding night at the reception as everyone watches in admiration and amazement. Yes, that one.”
Remember when Ed Sheeran released ‘Thinking Out Loud’ and everyone went crazy about it? Well, Johannes Dennis found his wedding song. “That song goes like: ‘Baby now, take me into your loving arms, kiss me under the light of a thousand stars, place your head on my beating heart…’ If I’m not mistaken, that song just said it all with all it’s rich and abundant romantic lyrics.” How sweet!
Felicia Mutonga was touched by the ever-so-graceful John Legend. “I would love to walk down the aisle with John Legend’s ‘You and I (All Around The World)’. It’s such a beautiful song.
Lyrical content is extra beautiful. ‘Out of all of the girls, you’re my one and only girl, ain’t nobody in the world tonight… All of the stars, you make them shine like they were ours, ain’t nobody in the world but you and I… You and I, ain’t nobody in the world but you… You stop the room when we walk in, spotlight’s on everybody’s staring. Tell all of these boys they’re wasting their time. Stop standing in line, ‘cause you’re all mine.’” Now don’t those lyrics make your heart melt?
With her incredible vocals, Celine Dion was an easy choice for Paula Nghanekwa. “’Power of Love’ by Celine Dion is an amazing song to me and always makes my heart and entire life believe in my loved one.” Are you tearing up yet?
Ndally Deivet said ‘Best of Me’ by Tyrese was a definite winner. “That is our favorite song. Actually, he introduced the song to me. The song has strong words that melt my heart. My favourite part is “you bring out the best in me, ‘cause you are best baby, and if had to do it again I’ll still choose you, girl’. The song says it all!”
There’s no doubt about it. R B rocks. And Gloria Lututu agrees. “My wedding song is Chanté Moore and Kenny Lattimore’s ‘When I Say I Do’. It has to play when I walk down the aisle. It is just everything.”
But who said pop isn’t cool? Gideon Ndara likes ‘All I Ever Need’ by Austin Mahone. “This will definitely add more value to our future as it will remind us, specifically myself, of the time she took the initiative of becoming a part of me and made my 360° circle complete. Part of the lyrics I love: “When it comes to you, baby, I’m addicted. You’re like a drug, no rehab can fix it. I think you’re perfect baby, even with your flaws. You ask what I like about you, ooh, I love it all.” Gideon even sent a shout-out to his loved one. “I love you, soul mate!” Lucky lady!
Fernando Chimuco, however, is doing something out of the ordinary. “I won’t mind composing a song as a surprise. Imagine an Araffath or Elvo beat with my weird voice. It would be a hit and a half!”
Who says a wedding can’t be fun?
