THE Welwitschias crashed to a 101 0 defeat against the Griffons in Windhoek on Saturday.
The Griffons dominated all aspects of play while the Welwitschias’ defence was nowhere to be seen. The visitors, who led 54 0 at halftime eventually ran in 15 tries as the Welwitschias suffered their biggest defeat in years.
Left wing Warren Williams led the way with a hattrick of tries, while right wing Selvyn Davids, eighthman Dirk Grobbelaar, full back Tertius Maarman and flanker Boela Venter scored two tries each.
Hooker Neil Rautenbach, prop Danie van der Merwe, and substitute backs Lohan Lubbe and De Wet Kruger scored one try each.
Fly half George Whitehead converted 13 of the tries for a personal tally of 26 points.
Griffons flanker Thato Mavundla won the man of the match award.
For the Welwitschias there was not much to write home about, but they at least matched the Griffons in the scrums, while eighth man Joe Hermann shone in a losing pack.
