THE Namibia Rugby Union has delayed the naming of the new Welwitschias coach indefinitely.
The new coach to replace Johan Diergaardt had been expected to be named yesterday, according NRU Interim Committee chairman Danie Strauss, but the union issued a statement to the contrary.’The Namibia Rugby Union herewith wants to clarify that at this stage no finality has been reached with regard to the appointment of the coach. Contrary to reports in the media, the appointment of the coach is still in process,’ read the NRU statement. Four candidates – Riaan Jantjies, Joop Opperman, Jakkals Pretorius and Dan Vermeulen – have been shortlisted for the position. Certain quarters in the rugby fraternity have hinted that Jantjies has already landed the post.
