Local event ticketing company Webtickets Namibia marked a decade of operations in the country this week, reflecting on its growth from a home-based start-up to a nationwide ticketing network.
Speaking at an anniversary gathering in Windhoek, Webtickets founder and general manager Delia Magg-Thesenvitz traced the business back to its first venue in 2016.
“I checked what the first event we did was. It was a bubbly breakfast at La Brocante,” Magg-Thesenvitz said, referring to the former coffee shop at the historic Grüner Kranz building in Windhoek.
Since that initial assignment, the firm has handled more than 12 000 events across Namibia.
The company started out using a residential garage as a storeroom after securing its initial ticket stock.
“Yes, we were a true start-up. And like every good start-up story, our first space also included a garage,” Magg-Thesenvitz noted, acknowledging co-founder Drienie Ellis, who helped establish the firm’s initial operations before moving to a partner retail role.
Over the past decade, Webtickets expanded its reach across various sectors, managing gate entry and sales for sport matches, cultural festivals, educational workshops and tourism attractions.
Among its largest assignments in terms of turnout were the Hage Geingob Cup football matches.
To manage high volumes and streamline entry at major venues, the company introduced tiered pricing strategies in tandem with sport organisations.
