If you’ve spent the last couple of months crying over the Warehouse Theatre’s closure, dry those tears and get hip to The Brewers Market.
Rebooting the beloved theatre amidst a mixed market space showcasing the building’s beery origins while exposing tourists and locals to some of the best food, arts, crafts, SMEs and entrepreneurs Namibia has to offer, The Brewers Market is set to be a dynamic cultural hub in a place we all know and love.
“This modern mixed market space will consist of designers, artists and entrepreneurs such as barbers, tattoo artists, musicians and leatherworks,” says The Brewers Market marketing and PR manager Megan Pritchard who is taking on the rebrand alongside owner and entrepreneur Che’ Rousseau whose entertainment portfolio includes the former Zanzi Bar, Club Vibe and VIP Events.
Open seven days a week and featuring The Designers Emporium Namibia (Den), an art gallery, a weekly Saturday market space offering a variety of food, beverages and brand pop-ups and proudly returning old favourites such as Free Your Mind, Spoken Word, Song Night, karaoke and Open Mic, The Brewers Market is spiritually same-same but different.
“To maximise the theatre’s presence, it will be booked for any special events, lifestyle shows, performances, corporate functions and training sessions,” says Pritchard. “We are also very big on supporting local music and the performing arts, therefore we will be keeping the Warehouse Theatre concept alive.”
Trading from 10h00 to 02h00 under the tagline ‘where culture brews’, The Brewers Market is currently amidst some reimagination but is determined to open its doors next month.
“I want to create a cultural hub where creators can come together and really have an open, free space and I want to encourage creatives in Namibia to work together,” says Rousseau who envisions collaborative fashion shows, a revolving art gallery and all the live music patrons love.
“It’s looking great,” Rousseau says enthusiastically and with an exciting promise for long time fans of the treasured theatre, Boiler Room and bar.
“It’s looking different but still has the same kind of feel to it.”
