Walters call on athletes to prepare well for All Africa Games

WINDHOEK – The Chef de Mission of Team Namibia, John Walters, has urged athletes to prepare well in order to perform at their peak during the ninth All-Africa Games scheduled for Algeria from July 11 to 23.

Walters made the call during an update on Namibia’s preparations for the continental showpiece, which is about two months away. Namibia will participate in athletics, boxing, badminton, cycling, chess, gymnastics, shooting, swimming and wrestling.Walters, who is also the Ombudsman of Namibia, said Government through the Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) is trying to pay the high cost involved in sport and that it was now up to the athletes to account for they money spent by bringing back medals.Said Walters: “Success at the ninth AAG will show if we have improved with time or if we have stayed behind in the past.”He said with the two months left, Namibia should raise its preparedness for the challenges ahead.Although some codes still need to qualify, a provisional list of athletes has already been forwarded to the AAG Organising Committee for accreditation. He added that the NSC has received the preparation money from the Directorate of Sport and that the codes that have qualified for the AGG will receive it in due course.Walters, who recently undertook an inspection visit to the facilities in Algiers, said there would be no reason for athletes to blame their inability to perform on the condition of the facilities. The only problem athletes might experience could be the humid summer heat of between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, he said.Haseb new NSC finance head WINDHOEK – The Namibia Sport Commission (NSC) has appointed Walter Haseb as its new Head of Finance and Administration.Haseb, 36, who took up his
