VIPs get first view of Nujoma film

TWO private screenings of the film adaptation of former President Sam Nujoma’s autobiography, ‘Nujoma – Where Others Wavered’ were held at the Ster-Kinekor theatre in Windhoek over the weekend.

The film, whose name has been changed to ‘Namibia – The Struggle for Liberation’, premiered in front of the former President and other VIP guests on Friday night, while cast, crew and others who worked on the production were treated to a private screening on Saturday night. Considerable effort was made to dodge the media, which those involved with the movie claim have been unnecessarily negative about the film since its inception.First impressions from those who have seen the film are positive.Those spoken to say they were impressed with the quality of the overall production, as well as the storytelling.Some critical viewers, however, questioned whether the historical film would be entertaining to audiences who don’t have prior knowledge of the country and its struggle for liberation.The film is still far from available to the general public, Namibia Film Commission Chairperson Cecil Moller told the audience over the weekend.International distributors were currently being sought, he said.The film stars American actors Carl Lumbly and Danny Glover, and was directed by art-film director Charles Burnett.The three previously worked together on the 1990 movie, ‘To Sleep With Anger’.Considerable effort was made to dodge the media, which those involved with the movie claim have been unnecessarily negative about the film since its inception.First impressions from those who have seen the film are positive.Those spoken to say they were impressed with the quality of the overall production, as well as the storytelling.Some critical viewers, however, questioned whether the historical film would be entertaining to audiences who don’t have prior knowledge of the country and its struggle for liberation.
