South African electrical equipment supplier ACDC Dynamics has opened its first corporate express shop in Namibia, employing 20 Namibians as it expands into the market.
The ACDC Express Windhoek shop, located at 12 Diesel Street in the capitals’ Southern Industrial area, offers a range of electrical products to individual customers and businesses, including lighting, commercial sockets and switches, extension reels, solar products, wiring, motor control equipment and tools.
Speaking at the opening in Windhoek on Friday, company owner and chief executive Mario Maio said the company recruited 20 Namibians through an interview process ahead of the launch.
“All employees are local. We from South Africa just come for training, while the local staff run the business,” he said.
Maio said the express shop plans to employ more than 40 people in Namibia as the business grows.
He said Namibia was chosen for expansion because of its potential in the electrical industry and the company’s longstanding business relationships in the country. He said the new shop is an investment in the Namibian market, making a range of electrical products accessible to homeowners, electricians, contractors and businesses.
“We saw the potential in Namibia. The industry has been growing, so we thought of coming here to show our strength in the electric business,” he said.
Maio said the company’s express shop model serves individual customers, while its other business operations focus on business-to-business sales.
He urged employees to value every customer, regardless of their order.
“Of course, we’re going to look at local pricing. We don’t want to be the most expensive and we also don’t want to be the cheapest. We want to be competitive,” Maio said.
Company tools category manager and spokesperson Patrick Dowling on Friday said the newly opened shop will only employ Namibians.
He said the company still needs more qualified, dedicated and hard-working local staff, inviting those with qualifications in electricity to apply.
ACDC Dynamics is also preparing to open express shops at Rundu and Ongwediva.
Unlike the Windhoek corporate outlet, the two outlets are privately owned, Maio said.
The company was established in 1984 as Trans Electron and rebranded to ACDC Dynamics in 1995.
It has branches in Johannesburg, Germiston, Durban and Cape Town, and 35 express shops in South Africa.
It also has an express shop in Eswatini.
With its ‘Everything Electrical’ positioning, the brand aims to provide customers and businesses with convenient access to a broad selection of products in one place.
