City of Windhoek mayor Sakarias Uunona, in his welcoming statement, says the Mayoral Cup 2026 is an annual u13 sport initiative aimed at promoting school sport, teamwork, discipline, and healthy lifestyles among primary school pupils.

“We hope this support will encourage continued participation and help strengthen sport in our schools and communities.”

Established in 2011, the tournament is organised in collaboration with the Khomas School Sports Region and the Windhoek Schools Sport Union.

The mayor urges players to play with passion, respect their opponents and officials, and uphold the principles of fair play.

“Win with humility and accept the outcome with dignity. Whatever the final score, you have already made your families, schools and communities proud,” Uunona says.

“The mayor’s cup is not only about competition, it is also about building confidence, promoting healthy life-styles, strengthening friendships and

creating opportunities for our young people to grow through sport.”
