Uushona itching for Nuumbembe fight

Uushona itching for Nuumbembe fight

Namibian welterweight champion Tyson Uushona has accused boxing promoter Nestor Tobias of trying to avoid him and has instead started looking for opponents in South Africa.

Uushona earlier stated that he is keen to fight Ali Nuumbembe in a rematch of their Namibian welterweight title fight which Uushona won more than three years ago. Uushona won that fight on a split decision to win the Namibian welterweight title, but the Nuumbembe camp disputed the judging, saying that their man had won the fight.Nuumbembe went on to win the Commonwealth welterweight title but lost it in his first defence last December. He subsequently returned to Namibia and recently joined the Tobias camp.Uushona, who was also earlier promoted by Tobias, said that they are scared of facing him.”The message is clear – they are trying to avoid me.I asked Nestor why he does not want to let Ali fight me and he said he had other plans and it would not be to Ali’s advantage to fight me now.But it is clear that he is trying to protect his guy and that they want to avoid me,” he said.Uushona said that he was in the best shape of his life and could not wait around any longer.”I’ve been training very hard and I’ve never been in this shape before.I cannot wait around forever, so I’ve decided to look for opponents in South Africa. We are currently negotiating with Dingaan Thobela’s former trainer Papa Norman to find me a suitable opponent in South Africa,” he said.Uushona is still unbeaten as a professional fighter, with a record of 14 victories, of which nine were via knockout. His last fight however was nearly a year ago, when he beat Kanime Kanime on points.www.namibiasport.com.naUushona won that fight on a split decision to win the Namibian welterweight title, but the Nuumbembe camp disputed the judging, saying that their man had won the fight.Nuumbembe went on to win the Commonwealth welterweight title but lost it in his first defence last December. His last fight however was nearly a year ago, when he beat Kanime Kanime on points.www.namibiasport.com.na
