The Usakos Town Council has partnered with Chakula Investments to establish a youth-run butchery at the Erongo region town, the local authority council announced on Thursday.
The partnership follows on a meeting in Windhoek between the council and Chakula Investments to discuss bringing the Chakula Youth Franchise initiative to Usakos.
Under the initiative, two young people from Usakos will be selected and trained to manage and operate the butchery.
Chakula Investments will provide practical training in business management and daily operations. Chakula will also supply the butchery with meat.
The council will provide the business with a stall at the town’s small and medium enterprises park, which is still under construction.
The council says the project is aimed at helping young people establish sustainable businesses while making meat products more accessible to residents, adding that the partnership forms part of its efforts to involve young people in the town’s economic development.
