ON behalf of The Humane Society of the United States, the largest animal protection organisation in the US, I was pleased to read that the feral cats of Swakopmund have a website (‘Swakop’s Feral Cats Get Website’, October 10).
They already have a champion in Karene Brewis, the dedicated individual who cares for them. I have followed Brewis’ Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts since I first learned about her in August 2007.TNR is a strategy used worldwide to effectively and humanely reduce the number of feral cats and improve their quality of life. However, no person, agency or organisation can or should be expected to manage feral cats alone.I urge the community to provide their support, money and time so that Brewis may continue to help the feral cats of Swakopmund.More information about managing feral cats and an article about Brewis’ good work are available at www.humanesociety.org/feralcats.Nancy Peterson Feral Cat Program Manager The Humane Society of the United States 2100 L Street, NW Washington, DC 20037 301-258-3129 (p) 301-258-3081 (f)I have followed Brewis’ Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts since I first learned about her in August 2007.TNR is a strategy used worldwide to effectively and humanely reduce the number of feral cats and improve their quality of life. However, no person, agency or organisation can or should be expected to manage feral cats alone.I urge the community to provide their support, money and time so that Brewis may continue to help the feral cats of Swakopmund.More information about managing feral cats and an article about Brewis’ good work are available at www.humanesociety.org/feralcats.
