Uranium and gold carry mining sector in 2025

Namibia’s mining sector was fuelled by uranium and gold in 2025, according to the Chamber of Mines’ latest mining update.

“In 2025, Namibia’s mining sector delivered a mixed performance, reflecting divergent global commodity trends. Strong outcomes in uranium and gold supported export earnings, fiscal revenues and investment confidence, while the diamond sector remained under sustained pressure due to weak global demand,” the chamber’s mining report for November and December says.

In October, uranium was the country’s largest export commodity, accounting for 33% of total exports.

In November, gold took over as the largest export, comprising 21% of total exports.

Geopolitical risk drove central banks towards gold, increasing prices and providing stability for Namibia’s mining sector.

In addition, global demand for copper and tin grew as countries continue to invest in electrification, renewable energy technologies and infrastructure.

The price of copper in December 2025 was 29% higher than the 2024 average, reflecting sustained high prices.

The diamond sector ended the year on a low note, as prices continued to fall throughout 2025.

“The 2025 mining outcomes clearly demonstrate the importance of diversification within Namibia’s mineral sector. While diamonds faced global market headwinds, the strength of uranium and gold reinforced the sector’s resilience,” the chamber’s chief executive Veston Malango says.

The chamber’s 2026 outlook predicts that uranium will continue to be the sector’s largest growth driver, while strong gold prices will support government revenue and export earnings.
