Unam hit by armed robbers

POLICE in the Oshana region have opened a case of housebreaking on a business premises after a number of unknown suspects allegedly stole more than N$200 000 from the University of Namibia’s Hifikepunye Pohamba Campus in Ongwediva at about 07h00 on Saturday.

According to the police crime report, the suspects broke the window of the office to gain entry and cut the safe before stealing the cash.

No arrests have been made so far and police investigations into the matter continue.

In a separate incident, a 51-year-old pedestrian died on the spot after a minibus hit him when he attempted to cross a road in Ongwediva at about 20h20 on Sunday.

The driver of a Toyota minibus was reportedly travelling along the main road from Ongwediva to Oshakati when the incident occurred.

Police have identified the deceased as Lukas Amon from Onawa informal location in Oshakati.

His next of kin have been informed.

The driver, Amadhila Tomas (38), and the passenger, Ipinge Atanasius (48), both sustained minor injuries.

A police investigation into the matter continues.
