WINDHOEK – Namibia’s Bethuel ‘Tyson’ Uushona on Saturday lost the World Boxing Federation (WBF) title to Deniz ‘El Pistolero’ llbay of Germany in Walvis Bay.
IIbay won by a unanimous decision after judge Rassie Erasmus from South Africa scored the fight 117 -111 in favour of IIbay, while judge Jean Marcel Nartz’s score card showed 115 -113 in favour of IIbay and Rikkie Shabalala 118 -110 in favour of Uushona.
IIbay had a record of 16 fights, 15 wins and one loss while Uushona’s record stood at 40 fights, 35 wins, four losses and one draw.
Nartz, who hails from Germany, is the Vice President of the World Boxing Federation.
In the main under card fight between Abraham ‘Energy’ Ndaendapo and South African former world champion, Oscar Chauke in a junior lightweight WBF international title over 12 rounds, Chauke emerged victorious.
Chauke’s victory came as a result of a split decision by the panel of judges, with Nurtz ruling 113-114 in favour of Chauke, Erasmus 117-112 for Ndaendapo and Timo Haikonda with 113-112 for Chauke.
In the featherweight category, Namibia’s Gotlieb Ndokosho lost to South Africa’s Rofhiwa Maenu.
Completing the distance of 10 rounds became impossible for Ndokosho as Maenu finished him in the second minute of the second round.
Ndokosho’s coach had to throw in the towel to rescue him as Maenu’s fists rained on Ndokosho’s head.
David Shinuna from Opuwo in the Kunene Region beat Kagiso Tebogo from Lobatse, Botswana in a Junior Lightweight fight.
Immanuel Joseph finished Sakaria Shipanga with a technical knockout in the first round of their four-round fight, while Nathanael Sebastian technically knocked out Joseph Joseph in the third round of their six-round fight. – Nampa
