Tunakie’s Charity Day Launches

A charity project started by the late shambo queen Tunakie which collects clothes, toys, shoes, money, scholarships and bursaries kicked off at the beginning of this month.

Tunakies foundation aims to better the lives of orphans.

“We welcome anything that a needy child may need in life. We appreciate the presence of any and everyone and the receipt of anything that can make the day of a disadvantaged, needy, orphaned Namibian child happier and easier,” Tunakies aunt Angie Uushona says.

“Our aim is to give some love and care to the needy. Tunakie was our golden jewel, our rare diamond. We wish to keep her legacy.”

The Otyaka Queen often helped the less fortunate while she was alive, says Uushona.

“Thats something she had been doing for years.

“We urge people to donate because we dream of launching a formal charity organisation, to honour Tunakies legacy,” she says.

Orphans were very close to Tunakies heart because her parents both died when she was still very young, Uushona says.

“Tunakie had a very generous heart. Everyone who knew her personally knows that she was all about giving, caring and loving others. She put herself last when she realised someone was in need,” Ushona says.

Tunakies charity day will take place on 27 November and aims to collect more items. The fundraising event takes place at Palam Garden, Oniipa, near the Onandjokwe State Hospital, at Ondangwa.

The official handover event will be held on 30 November, when donations will be given to orphans and vulnerable youth at Oniipa.

“Tunakie wanted to give back to her own community in her hometown. She knows how orphans and poor children suffer, because she was one herself,” Uushona says.

“The event will be held in remembrance of Tunakie, who always showed love to everyone and believed in helping the needy and the abused.

“This is something that me, Tunakie and Vissah Aludilu, her sister, planned to do before she died. I am fulfilling her wishes. Lets join hands together and remember her first birthday in heaven by giving to the needy,” says Uushona.
