The Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism, Municipality of Walvis Bay, the Namibian Ports Authority and the Namibian Police Force embarked on a welcoming and safety campaign at Walvis Bay on Tuesday.
Erongo tourism officer Suama Nambala said as a number of ships will be docking at Walvis Bay throughout March for the 2025 shipping liner season, there is a need to enhance Namibia’s tourism industry, ensure passenger safety, and promote world-class customer service.
“The region has become home to passenger vessels, and this is a great and important season. Some liners have already done pre-bookings. Some passengers want the experience of riding in a local taxi. We also have our vendors that sell souvenirs. We have cultural performances to showcase our cultures and welcome passengers to make them feel at home and have the best experience.
“The intention is that our local community also benefits, while giving tourists the best and safe experience,” she said.
Passengers are equipped with safety tips with the aim to combat crime against tourists.
They are advised to move in groups and know where they can find the police around the town.
Those who deal with tourists will also receive customer service training.
Community against crime groups at the town are urged to be on standby to ensure the safety of tourists.
Vessels that already arrived at Walvis Bay on Tuesday include the MSC Musica and the Europa, while more passenger liners are expected to dock at the port.
