Namibia’s Capricorn Eagles are finding the going tough at the T20 Women’s Emerging Nations Trophy in Bangkok with four defeats in their opening five matches.
That put them seventh on the log out of the eight competing nations, just ahead of Tanzania on run aggregate.
Yesterday Namibia suffered a 51-run defeat to The Netherlands, who scored a sizable total of 164/6 with Sterre Kalis scoring 47 and Babette de Leede 39. Yasmeen Khan kept Namibia on track, scoring 41 off 15 balls (7×4, 2×6), but when she was out, Namibia’s challenge faded.
Further down the order Naomi Benjamin scored 10 and Sylvia Shihepo 11, before the whole team was out for 113 well short of the target. The Netherlands’ best bowlers were Frederique Overdijk with 4/18 while Caroline de Lange took 3/11.
Namibia opened their campaign with an eight-wicket defeat to Tanzania on 20 November.
Namibia were restriced to 118/5 with Sune Wittmann scoring 53 off 50 balls and Kayleen Green 20, but Tanzania comfortably reached the target, scoring 119/2 with Saum Mtae scoring 55 not out.
The next day, Namibia recorded their only victory to date after beating Uganda by 12 runs.
Namibia were restricted to a low total of 83/8, with Kayleen Green scoring 21, but it was more than enough as Uganda could only reach 71/7. Immaculate Nakisuuyi top-scored with 17, while Leigh Marie Visser took 3/10.
On 23 November, Thailand beat Namibia by 27 runs. Thailand scored 115/6 with Natthakan Chantham scoring 58 not out, while Naomi Benjamin took 2/16.
Namibia replied with 88/8 with Yasmeen Khan scoring 27 and Kayleen Green 22, while Sunida Chaturongrattana took 3/19.
On 25 November, Scotland comprehensively beat Namibia by 7 wickets.
Namibia scored 74/10, with Meke Mwatile scoring 15 and Edelle van Zyl 12, while for Scotland, Katherine Fraser took 3/9 and Abtaha Maqsood 3/20.
Scotland replied with 76/3 off only nine overs, with Sarah Bryce scoring 36 not out and Darcey Carter 21, while Naomi Benjamin took 2/15.
Scotland, meanwhile, have gone to the top of the log after remaining unbeaten in their opening five matches. They lead the log on 10 points, followed by Thailand (8), UAE (6), The Netherlands (6), Papua New Guinea (4), Uganda (2), Namibia (2) and Tanzania (2).
