Too Much Focus On Nujoma

Too Much Focus On Nujoma

ALLOW me to express myself as a “voice in the wilderness”.The reason I am saying this is because there are not many people who will support my stance due to the culture of fear that has infiltrated us since Independence.

It is of serious concern that our country and its people are taken for granted by the political leadership of today, who are the sons and daughters of this soil. Why is our Cabinet still concentrating so much on Sam Nujoma – for 16 years now? Every priority is for Dr Sam Nujoma. What the Namibian Cabinet has done in the name of Nujoma is as follows: * It amended our lovely Constitution just for Nujoma to be given a third term.* It tolerated the Nujoma-Kapia-Kawana jobs-for-comrades policy which promoted corruption in this country.* It pushed through the National Assembly a retirement package for Nujoma that is costing the state a lot of money – including the non-cash resources.* The said Cabinet decided to keep Nujoma’s portrait hanging in the State offices opposite President Pohamba’s.In Windhoek’s Wanaheda Police station, Nujoma’s photo is still hanging as the Head of State.* The same Cabinet allowed Nujoma to personally make a decision to send our brothers and sisters into foreign wars – DRC and Angola – and gave away our money (in millions) to the late Kabila.* It was Nujoma’s own discretion to decide to build a new State House while the people of Namibia are living below the breadline and are hungry to see human-centred development taking place in their constituencies.* Another huge expenditure on Nujoma is the money that was thrown by the Cabinet into the film ‘Where Others Wavered’ at the expense of those “whose blood waters our freedom”.* It is the same person who was awarded a bursary to study Geology by a local diamond company as a “social” responsibility project” and this for a person who lives a life of luxury.* Our Cabinet is the one that provides the former President with a fat retirement package and other benefits to fulfil the social and environmental responsibilities, but to the nation’s surprise, the former President’s Office is allowed to abuse it by paying for a State helicopter for a Swapo trip. There are other examples. Now, painfully, another law is to be passed next week to confer an official title upon former President Sam Nujoma. Why does the Cabinet have to spend scarce and precious time and resources just on Nujoma?
