Tigers appoint Mogane as coach

STRUGGLING premier league side United Africa Tigers has appointed former Brave Warriors coach Rusten Mogane as head coach with effect from Monday.

Speaking to Nampa Tuesday, Tigers’ executive member Kelly Asser said the former Black Africa midfielder signed a two-year contract to revitalize the team popularly known as ‘Ingweinyama’. Asser said that Ghanaian-born coach Jakes Amaning has been relieved from the hot seat due to his multiple responsibilities, one being his part-time job as commentator and presenter for the NBC’s soccer programmes. It is widely speculated that Amaning received his marching orders after the Tigers versus Black Africa match a fortnight ago, when he left at half-time to do commentary for a Nations Cup match that the NBC was showing live.Mogane joins Tigers at the time when the team is preparing to make another challenge for the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup.Tigers has lost in four finals of the NFA Cup and fans will be hpoing that Mogane’s arrival will turn around the ailing fortunes of the oldest soccer club in the country.Mogane, who had a previous stint with Tigers in the mid-1990s, is popular among soccer fanatics for taking the Brave Warriors to the 1998 Africa Nations Cup held in Burkina Faso.In recent years, Mogane was part of the national team’s technical committee headed by German-born Peter Ueberjahn.Ueberjahn was sacked because of the Warrior’s failure to qualify for the 2004 Africa Nations Cup in Tunisia as well as the 2006 world and continental showpieces.Johannes ‘Kumi’ Umati will assist the newly-appointed coach while the team manager’s position is to be filled at a later stage.- NampaAsser said that Ghanaian-born coach Jakes Amaning has been relieved from the hot seat due to his multiple responsibilities, one being his part-time job as commentator and presenter for the NBC’s soccer programmes.
