The search is on for Miss Namibia 2022

AFTER Covid-19 ravaged everything last year, the Miss Namibia organisers announced that the hunt for the next beauty queen has begun, and registration for the 2022 pageant is now open.

The pageant, which will kick off in June this year, aims to empower women and young people, as well as to promote culture and tourism.

In an exclusive interview with unWrap.online, Umbi Karuaihe-Upi, director of the Miss Namibia pageant, said the biggest difference to this year’s pageant is that it would have a live audience, and that it would be broadcast live on national TV and radio.

“The biggest difference that we want to see this year is that we have an audience when NBC broadcasts Miss Namibia live on television and radio. Last year, due to Covid-19, we had to have a virtual broadcast. We want friends, family and sponsors to experience the beauty of Namibia in person.

“We are so excited and are looking forward to another fun-filled year of selecting and sending the girls to represent Namibia on the international stage.

“This is about women empowerment, and I want to reiterate that the women who are going to participate should take note that they should use this platform to empower other women and advance their own careers. On this platform you will see diversity, intelligence and leadership,” she said.

“We want to use the Miss Namibia pageant to promote tourism. As you know, Namibia is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the world. It is a unique country with the friendliest and most beautiful people on the planet.

“Additionally, we want to motivate our youth. The majority of Namibians are young. They are the leaders of tomorrow, and we must use diverse platforms to motivate and empower them.

“We will also use it to promote all our cultures in Namibia. We want to showcase and promote our stunning traditional Namibian attire. We will build on promoting Namibian fashion designers and the industry in the long run.

“We need to send our designers to international platforms as well. Miss Namibia should in essence become instrumental in channeling to reach and help despondent communities in the country,” Karuaihe-Upi said.

She called for sponsors to come on board.

“Miss Namibia is wholly reliant on sponsorships, and I am confident Namibian sponsors will support and stand up for the empowerment of the youth as they did in the past.

“Those interested in participating can visit all NBC and Miss Namibia social media platforms and access the entry form. All requirements are stipulated there, and registrations will close on 16 April.” – unWrap.online
