Namibia exported charcoal worth N$100 million in September, with the main destinations being The Netherlands, South Africa and Poland.
Trade statistics released by the Namibia Statistical Agency yesterday considered charcoal as the commodity of the month.
Meanwhile, the country bought charcoal worth N$1 million, mainly from Malaysia.
Statistician general Alex Shimuafeni says the country recorded a trade deficit of N$3.4 billion.
“This reflects an improvement in the trade balance when compared to a N$5.3-billion deficit recorded in the previous month,” he says.
Further analysis shows that a N$5.7 billion deficit was recorded year on year in the same month of 2024.
The main trade destination for both exports and imports remains South Africa.
Shimuafeni says the country’s export composition for September was mainly concentrated on mining sector commodities such as uranium, precious stones (diamonds), non-monetary gold, as well as nickel ores and concentrates.
