The Elegant Nomad Kollection

With soft shades of nude, beige and brown, the Nomad Kollection, the latest offering from local fashion brand Honey Cassie Designs, is a force to be reckoned with.

It’s stylish, elegant and simple, something that can be worn in daytime outdoors, or evening indoors. The versatility of the 2020 spring/summer collection gives it a particular vibrancy that is unmatched.

“It’s based on the theme of the early nomads of the rich desert. It takes on the two contrasting ideas of exploring minimalism in today’s crowded world,” says designer Quin-Lee Hammond.

Images of the garments were taken in the desert, against the similarly coloured backdrop of sand, featuring glamour model and make-up artist Jay Aeron effortlessly showcasing the androgyny of the line.

The pieces include casual and classy blouses, pants and fitted blazers.

“It was made for the modern woman who likes a twist in how she dresses. We redefine traditional shapes to create modern, ready-to-wear pieces.”

Hammond, who has been designing for the last four years, began making clothes at a young age, inspired by her grandmother. After a brief stint as a business student at university, she switched to her true passion, a bachelor of arts majoring in textile studies, and she hasn’t looked back since.

She has showcased at Windhoek Fashion Week in the past, building a name for herself with bold ideas. She is inspired by many things in life, like people, feelings and colours.

“As you grow as a person, you learn and your views change. That has changed how I design,” she says.

The young designer has received plenty of recognition for her work, having showcased alongside designers like David Tlale, Maxhosa and Maria Caley at the Fashions of Southern Africa showcase.

She has also been honoured as one of the Swakara Young Designers and was nominated for this year’s Simply You Magazine Lifestyle and Fashion Awards in the favourite designer category.

Garments from the Nomad Kollection range in price from N$700 to N$1 800 and are made to order, to avoid the negative environmental impact of mass production.

As a final thought, Hammond encourages others who want to work in fashion to keep learning and working on improving their skills.

“Get advice from designers or artists that have been in the industry for a while,” she suggests.
