A GRADE 6 pupil accused of killing his aunt (60) at Onheleiwa village in the Omusati region allegedly locked her body inside her room and went to school after the incident.
The teenager, who cannot be named because he is a minor, has been charged with murder and robbery.
He appeared in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, where he was denied bail. The matter was postponed to 29 October.
Omusati regional commander commissioner Ismael Basson confirmed the charges against the teenager.
The boy (15) is a Grade 6 pupil in the Etayi constituency.
The boy’s uncle, whose name is withheld to protect the child’s identity, says the teenager allegedly killed his aunt on Friday morning before going to school.
“He then locked the deceased in the room. The suspect stole the deceased’s phone,” the uncle says.
The aunt’s body was discovered on Friday evening after a relative became concerned that he had not seen her throughout the day.
According to the uncle, the relative went to the aunt’s house and called out her name but received no response.
He then noticed that a window to her room was open and looked inside, where he saw her body lying on the floor.
“He then called his father to come to my sister’s house,” the boy’s uncle says.
The uncle says his brother had a spare key, which they used to open the room.
“They opened the room and found the deceased in a pool of blood. They called the police,” he says.
The family later realised the aunt’s cellphone was missing.
The uncle says the phone was later found in the teenager’s possession after another child alerted the family.
“A child informed my brother that he had found the suspect with the phone. My brother then grabbed the suspect and found the phone hidden in the suspect’s pants,” he says.
The uncle claims the teenager also took his aunt’s money.
He describes the teenager as a “troublesome child”, saying he had previously been accused of stealing from family members.
“Even if you leave your room open, he would sneak in and take anything he finds, or he steals your keys,” he says.
Another family member says the boy has been troubled for the past three years.
“He doesn’t listen to anyone,” she says.
