Teen arrested for alleged murder of six family members at Usakos

An 18-year-old man was arrested for the alleged murder of six people, believed to be his family members, at Usakos’ Hakhaseb informal settlement in the early hours of Saturday.
According to police spokesperson in the Erongo region chief inspector Ileni Shapumba, the suspect allegedly attacked the family members between 04h00 and 06h30 using an iron axe and a knobkierie.
The victims were struck repeatedly all over their bodies before being set alight, resulting in first- to second-degree burns.
The victims have been identified as 90-year-old Elisabeth Naruses; 18-year-old Fenny Naruses; six-year-olds Ibra Naruses and Raunisha Boer; and three-year-olds Rachel Boer and Emi Naruses.
The suspect reportedly sustained injuries to both feet and was taken to the Usakos State Hospital for medical treatment under police guard.
The police have confirmed that a possible murder weapon, an axe, was discovered at the crime scene.
While the motive behind the alleged killings remains unclear, police have opened a case of murder and defeating the course of justice against the suspect, who remains in custody.
The deceased’s next of kin have been informed of their deaths and law enforcement officers and forensic teams remain on site to piece together the full details of the incident.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
