This tour follows days after the Afro Nation festival in Portugal, which she describes as a “surreal and massive” experience, where she rubbed shoulders with world-class artists like Chris Brown and Wizkid.
“I was invited by the event organisers, Smade Events, to come through. The experience was crazy, from being backstage and meeting the biggest Afro artists in the world, to networking, and just the amazing performances. I got to be on stage watching most of the acts perform.”
The Afro Nation festival brought together the best artists in Afro-beats, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, amapiano and Afro-house over three days.
“This was my second time at such a festival, which brings the biggest from around the world together,” she says.
Jaye recently had an interview with the leading broadcaster BBC, where she showcased not only her talent but her mother tongue, Khoekhoe, too.
Her first international show was at the Dubai One Africa festival, where she was the first Namibian to perform.
So to once again be at such a game-changing event as a special guest was insane, she says.
“My biggest take home is that Africa is now, we are the sauce and everyone wants a piece of us. As Namibians, we are part of that equation, so we”;ve got to push ourselves. And linking up once again with artists like Wizkid, Buju, Larry Gaaga, Naira Marley and Chris Brown, can only push you to work harder.
“This festival was just amazing, and big shout-out to King Smade for creating such a festival for the culture. Next one is in Ghana, we are definitely going to see Namibia on it, headlining,” she says.
Namibia to America
Jaye, who is no stranger to the international stage, has a few surprises up her sleeve for her American tour and is keen to showcase her sound and brand in a number of cities in the United States.
“The world wants to see Africa and Namibia as part of the equation, so it”;s important to go out and show the world. I just want the world to see what Namibia can offer.
“The tour will take me through Washington DC, Atlanta and New York. I think international fans are drawn to me because I bring something different. My style, my sound, my image is different. It has never been seen before, not only in Namibia but beyond.
“The Jaye Walker brand is unique in every way and I”;m happy to go and knock down doors and bring it to the nations. This is only the beginning.”
The tour will start off in Maryland and Washington DC this Sunday (10 July).
