Tate Buti fuses mellow, party and Kwiku

Tate Buti does it again with his ninth studio album titled ‘Ombulumela’ which translates to ‘yeast’ in English.

The album is a mixture of the artist’s signature party and fast Kwiku sound, which has put him in a league of his own over the years, as well as a few mellow tracks which attract your attention with their inspiring lyrics.

The 20 track ‘Ombulumela’ kicks off with a track titled ‘Number One’ featuring Mushe, a motivational track talking about the importance of working hard, avoiding failure and striving to be the best.

On the third track, ‘Nomtima’, Tate Buti features Shyman who added some Zambian flavour, giving it some regional appeal.

A few more tracks down the list and the NAMA winning artist slows things down with a smooth and melodious sound on track 16, titled ‘Mama’ which features Oviritje artist Otjinane. The song is like a tribute to all mothers and a message to young people to respect their elders, take care of their parents and always thank God for their blessings. If ever a fusion of Kwiku and Oviritje made sense, it is with this track.

What would a Tate Buti album be without a love song? In his own way the ‘Osuka’ singer always finds a way to sing a few beautiful words about a girl. On ‘Amalia’, Tate Buti sings about a young lady whom he chose to make ‘his lunch box’.

Other artists such as Diop, Star, Tequila, Swart Baster and Dion, to name a few, all added their unique touches to make the album an overall pleasant work of art to listen to.

It is perfect for a December wedding and the upbeat spirit of the festive season, but will also remain relevant long after the party season is over.
