Following the death of founding father Sam Nujoma on Sunday, Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) secretary general Ephraim Nekongo said Nujoma profoundly shaped Namibia’s identity and values.
“One of my most cherished memories of Nujoma is his unwavering commitment to the principles of freedom, justice, and equality. His resilience during the protracted struggle for independence served as a beacon of hope for countless Namibians, inspiring us to stand firm and united in the face of adversity,” he said on Sunday.
He said he vividly recalls the power and warmth in Nujoma’s speeches, where he not only spoke of Namibia’s struggles, but also painted a vision of hope and potential for Namibia.
A particularly poignant moment, Nekongo said, was during the celebrations of independence, where his deep sense of gratitude and humility shone through.
He said Nujoma consistently emphasised that independence was not merely a political victory, but a shared triumph of the Namibian people.
His ability to connect with the hearts of citizens made him more than just a leader; he became a true father figure to the nation, Nekongo said.
