Swapo councillors Kabende Kabende and Charity Matongo-Mabuku were elected as mayor and deputy mayor of the Katima Mulilo Town Council on Friday.
The local authority swearing-in ceremony was conducted by magistrate Davy Kambinda.
Swapo councillors dominated the management committee as well, with Nsala Muhongo elected as the chairperson of the committee and Royd Likando and Kamwi Mazila as members.
National Democratic Party councillor Mukendwa Simasiku and Independent Patriots for Change councillor Jimmy Sikwela remain as ordinary members of council.
Kabende, during his speech, said his council will be defined by service delivery, accountability and unity.
He added that they will focus on the basics that matter to the residents, such as fair land allocation, better roads, reliable water, proper waste management and a council that listens and responds.
“The work begins now. Let us put politics aside and commit to delivering for our community. As for our traditional leaders, the business community, churches, youth and civil society, we need your partnership. Development is a shared responsibility. The young people of Katima Mulilo, you are at the centre of this new chapter. We will create opportunities that restore hope and build your future,” he said.
