Swakopmund regional councillor to stand down

Swakopmund constituency regional councillor and Erongo Regional Council chairperson Juuso Kambueshe will not stand for re-election in the upcoming regional council poll.

Kambueshe, who is on the regional council as a Swapo member, confirmed his unavailability for the position at the Erongo regional governor’s weekly Covid-19 update on Friday.

“I can’t add more value than what I have done before. I have been in the local and regional council duties for ten years. I am now making myself available for what the world is throwing at Namibia because we are part of the international community,” he said.

He said part of his new journey was to pursue an internationally recognised academic qualification.

“I will seek to bring a new dimension into politics. My contributions are not only to Swakopmund, it is also to the Swapo Party by strengthening the capacity of the party,” he said.

Kambueshe served as a local authority councillor at Swakopmund for five years. He took up a post in the regional council after a by-election in 2015, following the death of Swakopmund regional councillor and National Council member Germina Shitaleni. He was elected into the position again in the countrywide regional elections near the end of 2015.
