Swakopmund is set to host its fourth edition of the Swakopmund Fashion Week from 4 to 6 December.

Founder and fashion designer Christ ‘Lao’ Shameulu says this year’s edition will focus on growth, visibility, and renewed commitment to professionalising the industry in Namibia.

Under the theme ‘Fashion that Empowers’, Shameulu believes this will support the most energetic and internationally focused edition yet.

“I believe this will firmly be established as one of Namibia’s leading fashion, arts and creative entrepreneurship platforms,” he says, adding that the event will continue to draw local and cross-border designers, while at the same time gaining global attention and celebrating African innovation and excellence.

Swakopmund Fashion Week has grown into a movement that focuses on African fashion, art, cultural expression, and quality entrepreneurship.

Shameulu says the event has served as a bridge between emerging talent and global opportunity for designers, models, stylists and creatives.

“We are preparing for a moment in time where Namibian creativity stands shoulder to shoulder with international talent,” she says.

In addition, the 2025 edition will not only celebrate fashion but will also serve to highlight cultural exchange, tourism potential, and economic opportunity that goes along with hosting a fashion event of world-class calibre, she says.

The finale of the 2025 fashion week will feature a well-curated collection of 10 of the best southern African designers. There will be five from Botswana, three Namibian designers, and two from South Africa.

Further excitement has been added through the collaboration with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation’s ‘What a Lifestyle’ as media partner for the main show’s coverage.

“This will lead to strong visibility when we tell the stories of our designers and showcase the creative heartbeat of Namibia to the rest of the world.”

According to the organisers, there is more to the event than just glamour as it will be offering young models, designers, entrepreneurs and creatives real-world experience and mentorship.

Shameulu says the long-term vision for the event is to position it on the international stage as a fashion showcase celebrating African creativity, helping to grow the economy while continuing to inspire the next generation of innovators.
