Suspects arrested at Gobabis for theft of over N$260 000 in cash

Four suspects were arrested at Gobabis on Monday after allegedly ambushing security guards and stealing a cash box containing N$266 525 in cash.

The security guards were at a filling station at Gobabis, preparing to collect in-transit money for a bank deposit.

According to a police report, the robbers fled the scene in a silver sedan with a fake registration number, which was later found to correspond to a genuine registration number.

“Immediately after the report was received, most police stations in the region were informed to conduct roadblocks. A vehicle matching the description used in the armed robbery was intercepted on the C22 road by officers from Du Plessis Police Station.

“Upon searching the vehicle, cash was found on the bodies of three male suspects,” states the police report.

During interviews, the arrested suspects revealed that four additional individuals from Gobabis were involved in the crime. One of whom was reportedly in possession of a firearm.

The police recovered a total of N$70 640 from the suspects.
