Completely blind-sighted by her fellow sneaky contestants, Sandi became the last person to leave M-Net’s Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina before the all-important merge of the two enemy tribes, which could have greatly improved her chances of extending her stay on the desolate island.
Until her name was read out at the tribal council, Sandi was convinced that Proverb, the show’s sweet ‘lazy boy’, would be the next to leave. She even commented that he had grabbed an opportunity to go snorkelling for the first and last time before heading home.Spurred on by Survivor mastermind Ashley Hayden, tribe Timbila, however, had other plans. They couldn’t ‘suss out Sandi’ and were concerned that she could side with Sade Giliberti and Hanna Grobler, from opposing tribe Chibudu, after the merge. She simply had to go.In her exit interview at the end of the show a surprised Sandi congratulated her tribe on their ‘ingenuity’: ‘I think this was an incredibly strategic move on the part of the tribe. Well played guys!’Last week’s episode of Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina was packed with plotting and scheming, flaring tempers, white lies, and brute force. It all started at the reward challenge when Timbila – especially tribe member Louw Venter – raged about the way Chibudu’s Okkert Brits overpowered – and man-handled – them in the extremely physical ‘pirate game’. The contestants had to shove their enemies off a dhow into the sea and Okkert, the last man standing for Chibudu, single-handedly triumphed over the five Timbila team mates who ganged up to take him on.Continuing the pirate mentality, the each tribe could send an ambassador to the campsite of their rivals. Their mission: to bring back a valuable possession and capture a tribe member. While ambassador Okkert quickly concluded the task by taking Timbila’s fishing gear as well as Izak Davel, Timbila’s spy, Louw Venter, walked into a much more prepared Chibudu, who had hidden all their valuables, including the multiple tool his tribe desperately wanted. But it was a missing pot that led to Louw’s meltdown. Eventually, a still fuming Louw arrived at Timbila with captured tribe member Gys de Villiers and a small, slaughtered, chicken. His tribe was not impressed! All of this is likely to have serious repercussions in the next episode of Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina when the two tribes, down to five each, merge into a single unit. Each week, M-Net’s official Survivor website also features exclusive video material and additional behind-the-scenes content. This week, Sandi returns to reality and quickly realises she is far better off on the Mozambican mainland than she would be on Santa Carolina! Sandi then reveals the moment she really lost her temper as well as the fact that Ashley refused to look her in the eye at tribal council – a sign she takes to heart! It’s all on www.mnet.co.za.The next episode of Survivor South Africa: Santa Carolina will be screened on Wednesday, 3 March at 19h30 on M-Net.
