Summer hit king is back

RENOWNED artist Sunny Boy has returned to the limelight since his last album release in 2018, and will be blessing his fans with yet another summer song.

To enjoy it though, they must bring out their summer bodies.

“The initial plan was to drop it last week, but we are definitely going to drop it this weekend. It will not be with a music video, it will just be the song, but the video will be shot the following week.

“It will be free for the people to download,” he says.

Sunny Boy is known for fusing hip-hop and kwaito to create a sound he calls hikwa, which has elements of both genres, although vocally it reflects more hip-hop.

The artist is known for his popular classic, titled Summer Time, and has made a name for himself as the King of Summer with all his upbeat summertime jingles.

Although Sunny Boy does not take credit for inventing the style, rapping in kwaito has been used before by South African kwaito artists, such as Zola, Kabelo, Mandoza, Brown Dash and Brickz.

Sunny Boy was, however, the first to make this style popular in Namibia.

This genre has landed him several music awards, including the best kwaito song award for his hit Omazimo, which has swept Namibians off their feet.

He was also nominated for the best kwaito video in the sought-after Channel-O music awards of 2008, in which he competed against South African kwaito legends Kabelo, Arthur, Big Nuz, and Namibian kwaito star The Dogg. –
