State alleges doctor’s mother interfered with prosecution

The state has alleged that the mother of Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital intern doctor Kelsey Kudumo has attempted to influence the prosecution process.

This was alleged by public prosecutor Erastus Kristiana, speaking in the Ondangwa Magistrate’s Court during Kudumo’s bail hearing on Thursday.

“We have evidence that your mother has started interfering with investigations. She has started calling one of the prosecutors in Outapi with regards to getting you out on bail,” Kristiana said.

The state argued that Kudumo should remain in custody, claiming she poses a flight risk.

Kristiana told the court that Kudumo had previously lived in China for several years and had also travelled to Nigeria, raising fears that she could leave the country if granted bail.

“You know the routes. We believe you are a flight risk,” he said.

However, Kudumo rejected the allegation, saying: “I was in China for my studies and I visited Nigeria for church purposes.”

Kudumo was arrested in March on charges including fraud and forgery linked to an alleged scheme involving false insurance claims submitted to Sanlam.

The state alleges that approximately N$2.1 million was fraudulently claimed between December 2024 and 2025, with the alleged involvement of medical personnel from Onandjokwe Intermediate Hospital, including Kudumo.
