Spice Things Up With Aphrodisiac

It’s Valentine’s Day and everybody is in sensual and loveable mood on the international day of celebrating love.

There are various ways to mark the occasion with your significant other – some couples may opt for a romantic dinner while others are planning a weekend away. Most will be looking to have an exciting time in the bedroom.

Keyword, exciting, so for those who feel missionary, doggy or the reverse cowgirl/boy is a bit , you can always add some inanimate friends to the party – and new sex shop Aphrodisiac has all the things you never knew you needed.

Greeted by a quaint room divergent of the usual seedy nature of sex shops, sales assistant Britney Mkabelana welcomes customers who are eager to explore new avenues.

“We stock mainly vibrators, dildos, mini-vibrators, pocket p*ssies, chrystal condoms, penis rings, masks and outfits,” she says.

Mkabelana notes that the store is a popular spot for couples, especially LGBTQI+ couples who have a liking for the silicone manhoods that measure in at 5,5, 6,9 and 8,1 inches.

Owner Valery Niingungo says the idea behind Aphrodisiac, which officially opened last November, is to encourage people to explore their own bodies and sexuality, as many still have a strange attitude towards their eroticism and physicality.

“Despite this taboo, I found it important to explore yourself. Sometimes we are in relationships where our partners are not staying with us and it is important to know how to satisfy yourself,” she says, as opposed to cheating, which could lead to various health risks and consequences.

Noting that the majority of the customer base is non-heteronormative couples, Niingungo emphasises that Aphrodisiac is an inclusive space.

“This shop is not only for lesbian and gay couples, but for everyone to come and find what pleasures them. And not only for you to pleasure yourself, but to spice up your relationship.”

Niingungo mentions that conservatives might be of the opinion that Aphrodisiac is promoting lifestyles parallel to that of the infamous Sodom and Gomorrah, however, she says it is not the case.

“We are trying to cater to people who are scared to approach their sexual desires and needs, we are here to satisfy those needs,” Niingungo says, adding that many people might be in relationships, but have never or don’t often experience climaxes.

According to healthcentral.com, quite a number of women struggle to orgasm through penetrative sex alone, while many have never experienced an orgasm at all, and this doesn’t mean that something is wrong with them.

“Men sometimes complain that they feel pressure to perform. Using sex toys can help take this pressure off, allowing both men and women to relax and enjoy the experience,” health writer Eileen Bailey says.

“Once thought of as a solo activity, there is a variety of sex toys available today meant to be used by couples, both during foreplay and during intercourse.

“These don’t necessarily take the place of traditional love-making, but rather are meant to enhance it, making sure both partners feel fulfilled and satisfied.”

Head down to Aphrodisiac to find the right fit for you and your partner, and if you can’t discover anything, flip through the catalogue or put in a personal order.

“Aphrodisiac. It’s all in the name. We are about exploring and personal entertainment,” Niingungo says.
