ELEVEN Arrows midfielder Victor Helu died from a head wound on Saturday after being stabbed in Windhoek on Friday evening.
The news was confirmed by Arrows coach Ronnie Kanalelo, who said he had received an SMS from Arrows owner JJ Doëseb that Helu had died.
‘I received an SMS from JJ saying, ‘Victor is no more.’ I also spoke to (Arrows defender) George Hummel, who was a close friend and he confirmed that Victor had died.’It is terrible when you lose a player like that and Victor’s loss will be a big blow for Arrows. He was one of my top players and was meant to play a major role in our plans for next year. I am busy finding new strikers who were meant to play around our experienced campaigners like Victor, but now his absence will leave a big gap,’ he said. As the news started to spread, the circumstances regarding Helu’s death remained unclear. Helu moved to Walvis Bay after joining Eleven Arrows at the start of the season, but had recently returned to Windhoek. The circumstances of his death and where it happened remained a mystery yesterday. Brave Warriors team manager Tim Isaacs said he was unclear about the details.’I only heard that Victor had passed away from a stab wound to the head. It could have been in the Otjomuise area where he had stayed previously, but I cannot confirm that. I also have no idea who killed him or what the motive was,’ he said.Chief Inspector Angula Amulungu said he had not heard about the incident and that no case had been made.’I don’t have any information about Victor Helu being stabbed and no case has been registered,’ he said.Helu was one of Namibia’s most respected and experienced soccer players. He started his career Premier League career with Ramblers in 2002, before joining Civics in 2007. He made his debut for the Brave Warriors in 2002 against Botswana and went on to win 15 caps for his country.
