SMSes of the Day : Wednesday

* I SUPPORT the unhappy customer: Service in Namibia totally sucks, some shop owners and attendants feel they are entitled to smirk and make a jest of customers.Just as happened to me at Hochland Spar. People, wake up and get educated!

* I AM so proud of my fellow Namibians for starting to say NO to poor service delivery, be it a cleaner or cashier who knows what is expected but refuses to deliver professional, friendly service. I am tired of spending my hard-earned money where cashiers chat to each other, chew bubble gum and seldom greet. It is time to realise that no excuses are acceptable for poor performance and service. We can and must unite to improve service delivery in our beloved Namibia. – Melanie Food for thought * HONOURABLE Prime Minister, do you know why civil servants are under-performing, inefficient, lack consistency, incompetent, lazy, arrogant, unprofessional and some times undermining and sabotaging the Government by abusing GRN property from cars to office equipment? Is it not because the Government lacks procedures-guidelines, is it because they don’t know the Public Service Charter, Public Service Code of Conduct and don’t even bother to read and study that handy pocket guide ‘Being a Public Servant in Namibia’. I suggest that no promotion be considered if a staff member does not know such documents. Interviewers must always ask candidates questions from these documents. Management Cadres are to be seriously dealt with or even demoted if discovered that they lack such knowledge.* I THINK NBC must introduce a regulation to prohibit ministers and deputies from airing their views on the ‘people’s parliament’. They have a subsidised national Parliament where they are paid sitting allowances and the public not. It is corruption and intimidation and even the moderator is afraid to call them to order. It is time the President reminds them that they have a different platform where we are not allowed to participate.* TEACHERS spend more time with children than their parents. Lucius, I think teachers have the right to discipline learners. It is how we approach our boys and girls that matters. Beating is not the only way. Try the merit system and see how it works. Befriend learners and you will see how they can pass your subject. Our attitude as teachers makes them behave wildly. My school performs poorly but my subjects are passed well. Change teaching strategies.* I’M wondering what parliamentarians do during the resting time? Seems like the parliament is their resting place as most of them tend to sleep during sessions.* REMOVE import tax from milk and just ban milk imports, as they still import milk and pass the tax onto the consumers.Guards for Iraq* THE issue of APS and SOC-SMG recruiting Namibians is correct. People are going to work for the benefit of their families. Lots of Government employees are in the claws of cash loans, especially the NDF and the Police.* FELLOW Namibians and ex-fighters, we must be vigilant and guard against the likes of Alex Kamwi, who wants to turn us into USA-led soldiers of fortune or dogs of war. I want to tell you my comrades that we must not be fooled to participate in an unproductive war perpetrated by Americans for their love of African-Iraq oil to advance their own interests. Americans currently have difficulty in withdrawing from lraq and want to use you with the blessing of Kamwi to guard their bases and act as their shield as they withdraw. You will be left there defenceless and left to die in a foreign country.* ALL those who want go to Iraq must change their citizenship to be Americans so that they that can stay there. We don’t want a problem in our peaceful country. How can you put your own country in trouble. We should not play with fire. Thanks to our Government for having put a stop to the recruitment Namibians for service in Iraq. – Mbadhi* AFTER all (is said and done), why did the Namibian Government register the US company?* IT is very good to hear that the GRN is now making the right decisions, caring about its people before handing over our brothers and sisters to strangers just because of mass unemployment. – Tsuvee* SOC-SMG Security. Maybe we should put these Americans in charge of policing Namibia. They seem to have the know-how, funds and will to prevent crime unlike NamPol. What happened to the flying squad set up with the help of the French? Probably non-existent any more. Or being used for the presidential motorcade?* I applaud the GRN for intervening and stopping the recruitment of Namibians to go and take part in a war that was not sanctioned by the UN. I think this can have terrible consequences for the peace Namibians are enjoying. Let the Americans finish what they started. We don’t want Windhoek bombed. I also feel that with the news surfacing about the treatment of Ugandan workers, it would have been wrong for the Government to allow Namibians to be recruited for work in Iraq.Congratulations* CONGRATULATIONS to Frans 2Pac Paulus. You have the courage to finish 30 km on a wheelchair. You do us proud and have shown the Namibian people that you can achieve your dream no matter your disability. I salute you and good luck for the future. – Mike* I WANT to express my appreciation for a job well done by NamPol when they caught thieves at Khomasdal’s Woermann Brock and the Atlanta Meat Market. Well done and I salute you for your swift action.Thank you* THANK you Prime Minister for lashing out at the NBC TV crew on Sunday at Heja Lodge after coming late as usual, and when you were ending your speech. Mr Kandetu, do you know the PM had to re-read his speech to at least give NBC a chance, that was a waste of time. Thanks to One Africa TV, they were there on time as always. NBC must be careful as people can watch NEWS on ONE AFRICA freely the Prime Minister said at the official closing of the National Youth Council Forum at Heja lodge on Sunday. ONE AFRICA KEEP IT UP.From the regions* KEETMANSHOOP Municipality, when will our kids have access to a playground and our suburb dustbins emptied and street names after 17 years of Independence?* FOR an institution that preaches service excellence, Trustco offices at Keetmanshoop didn’t have money to pay out its Winna Mariba winners for two days running. Why is the service in the South second grade and accepted? – Jeff, Ariamsvlei Border Post* I’M a youth at Omungwelume and we need a community library in Omungwelume.* ARE people going to vote for the current Government, which does not care for its people ? Why is rural water supply always closing water in summer time? Now people are just stranded for water in Ohama village in Omusati region and some surrounding villages. – PK Aindongo* THE person who sent an SMS about disorganised soccer administration in Karas, let me help you. You may have organised your game from the stadiums and change rooms. Don’t be afraid to visit the KSC office at the youth centre and you will see what we have achieved.* COMRADE Sacky Kayone, since Independence you have been the councillor of Ogongo but you did not bring any development to our area, especially Ongandjera. You are there for us, so please serve us.* KARAS Regional Governor and Councillors, look at what other Governors and Councillors are doing for their regions and people. Where do you want to see the Karas region in the future? We are very far behind. You cannot handle the situation, so please vacate and give capable people a chance. I am worried to the core. – JI* TO the Councillor of Linyanti: Honourable, since your constituency is the least developed in the Caprivi, what programmes do you have to lift it out of this dire situation? Will you ever visit your office at Sangwali?* I’M a concerned teacher from the Berseba community school. The school started as a private school some 20 years ago. The standard of education as well as discipline was excellent and visible goals and successes have been set and achieved under the driving force of Mr Josef McKay. We compete with different secondary schools in urban centres and have always been blessed with positive results after any competition, be it athletics, sport, debating or science fair. I am calling on the Swapo politicians and the senior Government ministers to help the principal, the staff and the community to change this school into a model educational institution. The school has well trained and hardworking staff. The founding as well as the current governor with Chief Fleermuys played a vital role in establishing this school. On these grounds, I am hoping for a productive response from our ever hardworking leaders.* TO the person who complained about poor education at Onamukulo, please be specific about what you are saying about the school having been turned into a family school. Do you mean only the principal’s sons and daughters are admitted there because of the high school fees you are referring to.* WHO is to be blamed for unfinished renovation works at Eunda State clinic (Omusati Region). Please, PS, come and see or delegate someone for a preliminary investigation, while ACC operatives are still in the North.* MY concern is about Nored, which never informs us when there are power cuts. At least inform us so that we can take precautionary measures. – Penny, EenhanaGeneral* IF President Pohamba is in Japan, why is Robert Mugabe Avenue closed at 06h45?* IF someone says there is no tribalism at the Suiderhof military base look at this in year 2002: there was a course in RSA, where candidates were chosen for the course but one week before their departure, a poor non-Oshiwambo speaking candidate was removed from the course. We want an explanation from the Ministry of Defence’s personnel office or is that not tribalism or corruption that although it is long time ago something must be done please.* WE learners at Concordia are suffering because teachers absent themselves from school regularly. We have unqualified teachers, especially for Grade 9s. Sometimes the learners have to do the explaining on difficult subject matter to the teacher instead of the other way around. Please help us exams are around the corner!* WE want the NBC to change the colours of its logo, because they are the same as those of the Swapo Party. We also want NBC programmes on TV to be named in all different local languages. We are all equal Namibians. Its is not only Swapo members and one particular tribe paying TV licences.* WHAT happened to the taxi designation signs? They (signs) are no more illuminated or visible from a distance and at night not visible at all. A taxi ought to be noticeable.* GOOD job Hon Clara Bohitile and your team. For advice next time, ask the cleaners’ supervisors to show you the store for cleaning materials. The hospitals need good and disinfectant products not industrial or concentrates. They are harming and destroying the paint, tiles, cupboard etc. Please toilets and children’s wards are the worst.* NAMDEB hospital doctors show respect to your patients. Remember patients need care and counselling when consulting doctors. Please do not be harsh to your patients as it has been the experience of many patients in Oranjemund. Please respect them, take your time and give them proper treatment.* HONOURABLE Prime Minister, do you know why civil servants are under-performing, inefficient, lack consistency, incompetent, lazy, arrogant, unprofessional and some times undermining and sabotaging the Government by abusing GRN property from cars to office equipment?
