SMSes of the Day : Tuesday

The Head of State’s intolerance towards each individual’s right to choose his political affiliation without the threat of retaliation is a disgrace and should not go unchallenged, lest we wish to ignore all the lessons of history at our peril.Speak out and be counted! – Edwin B

**- SINCE insurance companies don’t want to cover properties in Mariental west – why do local businesspeople not pay into a fund what they otherwise would have paid in premiums and use these funds to employ local people to clean the river? If we could build a railway in the North, why can we not clean a river in the South? **- SWAPO by now must have realised that calling for boycotts doesn’t work. The call for boycotting The Namibian didn’t work.Food for thought **- THE actual people to blame at Katutura Hospital are the management, not the nurses. This was purely a result of maladministration. It was bound to happen with more disaster to come.Unless both the Senior Medical Superintendent and the top matrons are redeployed.I’ll propose Dr Walters for Superintendent and the replacement of aging matrons with younger, skilled and more energetic senior nurses.Dr Shiimi is also more of a diplomat – always on leave or outside the country. She can get a diplomatic posting to Iraq or Kosovo. **- SOMEBODY complained about noise from the tent church in Klemens Kapuuo Street.I can assure you the City will do nothing. There seems to be two sets of by-laws in Windhoek. They did not even ask residents if they would have a problem. No wonder Katutura has become the African capital of shebeens! **- WE now have hot water at the Katutura Hospital for the first time in the five years that I have been working here.RDP is really shaking things up.- Ida Politics in general **- I’M getting the feeling that Swapo is in for violence and if the President is the one instigating this by calling the RDP and its supporters traitors.Comrade President please protect the peace and stability of this land. **- I WOULD like to advise the Omundaungilo community, particularly RDP supporters, when you report these incidents (intimidation) get the name of the officer because the Namibian Police will not be drawn into protecting only one political party. **- JUST because one supports RDP you won’t get water, a basic human right? Where are we heading, Namibia? It looks like there will be war if the RDP wins the by-election at Omuthiya, judging by the speeches of Swapo Party leaders over the weekend at Omuthiya. **- BOTH Swapo and the RDP are spoiling the peace of this county. They are fighting for money now and they are looking for civil war. **- OUR political leaders seem to once again miss the point.Having a strong and active opposition should be embraced for the sake of a true democracy.Instead they are resorting to childish behaviour such as name calling and blacklisting.People did not die for this country so that you can destroy it with politics of the belly.- True Namibian **- IS the election at Omuthiya going to be free and fair? People from outside that constituency must not be allowed to vote! Transporting people to rallies is not a good sign. **- I’M a Swapo supporter, but there is a term used by our officials which has been bothering me for some time now: “The Swapo Party Government”.I believe that the State is a representative of all Namibians and not political parties.I urge all our leaders to use non-discriminatory terms and grow peace and harmony. **- PRESIDENT Pohamba must promote peace and freedom of association. As a Swapo member I’m not interested in the RDP, but how Swapo is going to solve problems in education, health and unemployment.Pohamba, we need to know if Swapo is going to be elected into power again how they are going to solve the macro-economic problems in our country. **- THE speeches at the recent Swapo rally in the North were aimed at exploiting the ignorance of people. That is cheap talk and as a voter I’m not so cheap. **- THE current way of Swapo politicking is an insult to one’s intelligence and is a sign of total lack of political maturity.Does Swapo really want to be the party of choice when their leaders of late seem like headless chickens.Talk about ways to improve the living standard of the majority of the masses rather than exploiting their ignorance for own gain. **- MR Pohamba has lowered himself to the level of mudslingers. It does not befit a democratic leader. He should hang his head in shame and resign. His intolerance makes a mockery of our constitution! – Tate Shirumbu **- HIS Excellency Pohamba and his co-leaders will be harshly judged by the history of this nation if they continue to advocate exclusiveness and persecutions based on a difference of political opinions. **- PEOPLE of Omuthiya please let us wake up.How can we give up our votes to Swapo Party for the sake of a five-star lodge? What can we benefit from such a development when we are hungry and our children are in the street without education? Such a promise is an insult to us. **- NBC management remember that not only Swapo members are paying TV licences, because you are covering their rallies every time but you are no longer covering RDP rallies. Why? I thought the NBC was for all Namibians who are paying tax in this country.NBC show RDP rallies or we stop paying TV licences. **- WHAT is the motive behind the Prime Minister singling out the Oukwanyama tribe for apparently siding with the RDP? What if other tribes in Namibia reacted with different ideas? Political pluralism is not a crime in Namibia. The Speaker of the National Assembly showed his very mature and quality leadership when he pointed out how the relationship among political parties should be in the country.Customer concerns **- MTC please employ more consultants at your prepaid customer service desk. The service is slow, frustrating and pathetic.- Irene **- WHAT’S wrong with MTC? Every time we try to call the customer assistance number they take their time to help you out with your problem. You just hear: “All our operators are busy, continue to hold for our next operator”.When it comes to free SMSes on Fridays while people of Cell One are automatically registered, the MTC customers when dialling 134 to register don’t get access to register. Please MTC we want to have good customer service. **- BANK Windhoek Ondangwa branch, it’s high time that you improve your services. Can you please explain why long queues are served by only one or two tellers at a time. This was actually the main reason I moved to Standard Bank.Education **- PLEASE can the Ministry of Education send more Namcol textbooks because the books are finished and half the students have not yet registered.Study material that is in short supply are biology, agriculture, English, maths, physical science. **- CAN the Ministry of Education and Okaepe school board please look into two Government telephone lines that have been extended from the school office to the principal’s house for about four years now.Health **- CAN someone from the Ministry of Health tell us why the Windhoek Central Hospital casualty is not functioning? There is too much pressure on Katutura nurses, because they are also serving the referrals from other regions. **- DR Richard Kamwi keep it up, you are the only minister besides John Mutorwa who publicly acknowledges the wrongs in your ministries, such as the wrong calculations used in determining the overtime payment of nurses and the recent acknowledgement of administrative delays in the maintenance of health facilities. **- MOST nurses in public hospitals are rude and say nasty things to patients. Those of us making use of these hospitals are sick and tired of the ill-mannered and incompetent nurses. **- I WENT jogging from Eros to Katutura on Saturday morning when I found a man struggling for his life at a bus stop outside Katutura Hospital along Independence Avenue.People and cars passed without concern.I understand a Police car stopped and left without helping.I phoned the ambulance service and in no time they were on the scene.I give a big thumbs-up to the Minister of Health and his staff for this prompt reaction.Let us give credit where it is due and stop moaning all the time.We must also help the State by helping other members of our society.- Wahe **- A CUBAN doctor was assaulted at the Windhoek Central Hospital, but the public is quiet because they know that it is their own kids who are committing these terrible crimes. Please parent talk to your kids to leave innocent people alone and not to kill them for their cellphones.General **- GIPF, what is your policy with regard to salary increments to those civil servants with permanent injuries sustained on duty, as it seems difficult for them to find additional income, while the living standard is on the rise every day.It appears as if we are left to the mercy of the board of directors who now and then decide on an increase.By the way, when was the last increase worthy to be mentioned and yet we read about the wealthiest pension fund with huge investment losses involving millions of dollars. **- MVA must do something. How can you pay for accident victims’ treatment, but not for their transport cost to and from the hospital? I was booked for therapy at Oshakati 130 km away from my place of residence.Because I could no longer afford to travel up and down I dropped my therapy. Please can you provide us with transport or pay our travel costs. **- WE, the soldiers are sick and tired of eating porridge and chicken or canned beef and canned fish, which is prepared the same every day without taste.Where are the nutritious food like veggies and fruits? **- CITY of Windhoek, please do something with the dogs that want to bite everyone in the streets as if they own them.I’m talking about the dogs in Rocky Crest which are never locked in their yards. **- CAN someone high up please tell the VIP Protection Services that our national roads have dangerously steep ditches where one can simply not pull off? My car was almost damaged by these untouchables on Friday morning! **- HOW can the Government claim to be fighting crime if they are throwing helpless poor Grade 10s on the streets only to become criminals, prostitutes and druglords? – F Ndeshi **- I WOULD like to thank local economist Martin Mwinga for confirming the low salaries of public servants. These days you must consider yourself lucky if you land yourself a job in the private sector, even as a cleaner.A degree is nothing in Government.Only management and politicians earn a decent salary with various perks. The rest of us get peanuts. **- IT’S a known fact that officials at the Department of Works at Grootfontein who are responsible for allocating Government houses take bribes. If you want official accommodation you have to give a green envelope containing N$600-700 to get a house. When will the head office take action against these officials? **- I ONLY know of one stadium named after Dr Nujoma and not every street is named after him. There are streets named after other Namibian heroes.Like it or not, Sam Nujoma led the liberation struggle that freed Namibia and nothing you do or say will ever erase it from history. It’s tattooed in the hearts of patriotic Namibians, unlike those who only know the taste of honey but don’t know that someone had to be stung by bees to get it.- Gehaz **- MINISTER of Finance please don’t increase taxes.Just make tax collection effective.Currently, only those who depend solely on salaries pay taxes to the last cent.Bring all the businesses and farmers into the tax net.- Kauna **- MR Kandetu get organised. There are permanent NBC staff at the Keetmanshoop and Otjiwarongo NBC satellite offices. Why should your presenters rely on private people for information? I am talking about last weekend’s soccer results. **- THIS is ridiculous. We pay for a movie, but despite being shareholders we are not important enough to see it first. It’s years since the movie on former President Nujoma was supposed to be enjoyed by us, but alas we are still waiting. We are really being taken for granted or perhaps its time for another Presidential Commission to investigate why we are not allowed to see it.What are they hiding? **- THE Ovambanderu concern group should come out clear and not hide on the issue of the Ovambanderu constitution whereas their most important agenda is the chieftainship. The minority group of the so-called intellectuals are there to bring confusion. The poor boy who is said to be the heir of his father’s chieftainship of the Ovambanderu people of the Nguvauva traditional authority has been confused to the extent of not mourning the passing on of his father. What a shame even to us young supposedly to be his future followers. The supposed chief needs followers so the group should stop confusing him.The call for boycotting The Namibian didn’t work.
