* SAVING lives. Thanks for the great job at the roadblock on the B1 by inspecting cars’ tyres, hooters, lights and brakes. Viva officers.

Food For Thought* PLEASE Namibians come on, does it really hurt if a person is at Swapo or the RDP or any other party? This is not the way I know Namibia. Please leaders of Namibian parties talk to your people.- Igoge DChildren Of The Struggle* FOR the Government to be fair, they must give those 8 000 posts to all unemployed people in Namibia and not only to exile kids.* A TOTAL of 8 000 posts frozen for struggle children. What about us? We are also hungry and desperate. Please be fair!- Nana* THE Government freezes posts for struggle kids. This is unfair. I paid a lot in postage for applications.* WE thought education is the key to employment but now one has to have been in exile to get employment in the Government. What will happen to those who are not struggle kids, but unemployed?- KanuTreesHow did this happen?OMBOROMBONGO I am horrified that Hailwa says he cannot arrest the people for cutting down live trees! Surely, if the law was broken and considering the scale of the operation, detectives can solve this crime easily! Or is there a hidden agenda by someone?- Mariele Hlasek* IT does not surprise me at all that the Chinese are involved [allegedly] in the illegal harvesting of protected trees. I wonder why forestry does not tell up where they were being exported to? The East I bet.* FORESTRY’S decision to auction illegally harvested Leadwood is ill-considered. This is akin to NamPol selling confiscated narcotics. No surprise if those responsible for the illegal harvest lead the bidding.* WITH regard to the cut trees of Omaruru, is there really nothing that can be done against the perpetrators? Unless people like this are held personally liable this will happen again and again. * I AM outraged! After raping and pillaging their own land, the Chinese are now cutting our holy trees. Deport these leeches!Health And Priorities* [HEALTH] Minister [Richard] Kamwi must explain to this nation why Irene Uiras could not be sent to SA to get help while Matumbo Ribebe could be sent to the US? * WHY send Chief Ribebe to the USA for a kidney transplant that costs N$2,23 million when it can be done five times cheaper in South Africa? And to make it worse it’s because she insists? Parties should not campaign at taxpayers’ expense! – Disappointed taxpayer* KIDNEY transplants can be done in Namibia. Please check with the hospitals! Government will pay for Chief Ribebe’s transplant operation. Why not also for Patrick Farmer’s liver transplant?* I WAS admitted to Central Hospital two weeks ago and there is no hot water, even in the delivery ward. There has been no hot water for three months. I need an answer from the Ministry of Health.* WE had an orphan with a kidney problem at Ward 8 East and nobody bothered to do what they are doing for Ribebe. * DEPUTY Minister Petrina Haingura please send domestic violence burn victim (oh yes, violence against women) Irene Uiras to USA as well for treatment. She has been in hospital for over two years begging for treatment money! We know that you can do it.Brickbats And Bouquets* I WOULD like to thank the Oshana Police for their efforts and hard work to smoothly control the supporters of both Swapo and RDP on Saturday. Both parties abided by the law and the Police escorts and their presence was significant. I hope other regions learnt a lesson from it. Thanks to good leadership and teamwork, that’s what good policing is all about.- Truly patriotic* THANKS Ms Lister for not publishing those hate SMSes emanating from the Outapi political debacle. It’ll help no one rather than fuelling emotions. Good thinking and keep up the good work!
* I TOTALLY agree with Gwen Lister’s political perspective of November 13. When will the so-called struggle kids stop with their demands? Stop demanding and do something with your lives. Government stop giving into the demands. How about we all become ‘struggle kids’?* AFTER the successful NBC restructuring, Mr Matthew Gowaseb should be appointed at Air Namibia to restructure that entity which is draining State coffers on a similar fashion that NBC has been doing.* WHERE were you, M //Gowaseb? I was very impressed with his interview with Magreth Nunuhe of The Namibian. I hope others learn from this. Particularly the part about overtime. Get that man fulltime and bring him on board Air Namibia.- Abuti, Walvis Bay* BRAVO Magreth Nunuhe for telling it like is regarding corruption in our country in Thursday’s The Namibian.* ONE Africa TV your ads during movies are disturbing!* SLACK airport security. It takes a minister’s visit to expose the loopholes. What are the duties of NAC head of operations and the chief inspector at Hosea Kutako (International Airport). They must resign at once. No wonder Hosea Kutako airport is now used by cocaine smugglers. Embarrassing.Election Fever* HOW and where can I contact the ECN to organise a copy of my registration card? I lost my card and I want to vote. I am in Grootfontein. Please help.-You can phone the ECN’s regional co-ordinator in Oshikoto, Kasiringua Kaembo, on 081-377-5088 and ask for assistance. – NewsdeskPolitics* I AM waiting for a politician with ‘b***s’, to stand up call a spade a spade and tell me what he plans to do if he becomes President.High Stakes* FOR the reader that sent an SMS about closing all casinos in Namibia, are you going to employ all those people who used to work at casinos?* MAY I add to the request to close all casinos to include all shebeens in all neighbourhoods? It is unhealthy and does not improve the image and value of our neighbourhoods, let alone the education of our children. Ministry of Gender Equality and Child Welfare services doesn’t charity begin at home? Please oppose all liquor licences issued by the Ministry of Trade and Industry for shebeens in neighbourhoods. Thank you.- Concerned Citizen* PLEASE leave casino companies alone. They give work to unemployed people and they pay a lot of money in tax [to the Government].General
* TO curb illegal guns, anyone found in possession of an unlicensed firearm must be charged with attempted murder. That’s just if lawmakers really care.- David, Havana* THE UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which Namibia ratified states that: all children have the right to learn and use the language of their family (Article 30). Why is this article disregarded by schools? Many children are virtually forced to learn in English and to learn Afrikaans as the other language.* DURING February 2009, N$3 million was stolen from the Katutura Magistrate’s office. To date nobody has been charged for this theft. What is going on? Does nobody care about our hard-earned tax money?* CAN anyone tell me whether any Chinese company doing any kind of large-scale work in Namibia [such as mining exploration] has ever undertaken any environmental impact assessment? Companies from many other countries do this and have become our favourite whipping boys – are the Chinese exempt from legislation as usual?* THE Ministry of Environment and Tourism must start compensating those in car accident with animals on the road.* GIPF Pension Fund, you did not advertise the venues outside Windhoek, like Mariental. Where will those people register? Please advertise on TV.* I THINK the person who was complaining about the spelling of ‘A loota continua’ did not read the whole story or does not understand journalism at all. It is like those people who read the title of one of Robert Kiyosaki’s books ‘If you want to get rich don’t go to school’. Without reading the book some people are now using it as a statement to confuse people and promote illiteracy. The next time you see a weird, misspelt or out-of-context headline or book title, remember that it’s been done deliberately to get your attention. Please read the content then you will understand.Education* THERE is an opportunity for the Polytechnic to employ a young, dynamic, innovative and futuristic Vice Rector Administration. Someone who can do away with those draconian and despicable HR and Admin policies. please Rector, be creative with this process!!* PRIVATE schools exploit parents because they know that every parent desires the best for their children when it comes to education. Can the Ministry of Education not do anything about the exorbitant fees that are charged just to secure a place at a private school. What costs can a school incur just to enrol a new scholar and normally the fees are non-refundable. What if I get a place at another school? – Esme
* OKAKARARA VTC must try to upgrade the girls’ hostel as some of us come from disadvantaged families and we cannot afford renting rooms every year while students from town get into the hostel. Some of us come from far and the school management is very weak. Views raised are not taken seriously. I want a director to come and investigate the centre! * OH no! That was not what I wrote. I said Unam students must stand at the SRC president’s office and ask for the motive to close halls at exam time. Else pull him out of that office. Problem solved. – Apologies for the misunderstanding. – Newsdesk* I AM just a concerned citizen who is worried about the lives of the teachers of Silumbi Combined School, who are without water. Please help them Ministry of Education.- Nhindo Cassidy* UNAM should get organised and stop blaming students for their mistakes. I personally paid all my tuition fees, but on my timetable there was an amount reflected because the exam office did not remove it. I was denied entry to the exam venue unless I had proof (that I had paid in full) and this happened 10 minutes before the exam started. I went to the finance department to beg for proof of payment. A lot of students were there with the same problem. I spent an hour at that office just for a stamp which proved that I had paid. I went back to the exam venue and since one hour had elapsed, I ended up not finishing my exam. Dean of students why are we students treated like criminals? Some of us are trying to improve our lives but with these kind of practices and treatment we being discouraged from studying at institutions like Unam.- A disappointed studentIn And From The Regions
* ORANJEMUND. We need more shops, we only have a Spar and Woolworths. If we want to go shopping we go to Springbok, SA or Rosh Pinah which is far. Please Government help us, we are here to work but this makes it very difficult.* THANKS to the organisers of beach soccer this Christmas in Swakop. It’s this kind of activity we need at the coast bringing people together especially after our forth coming and most important elections ever. A big thanks also goes to the Municipality of Swakopmund for authorising such an event. Viva Swakopmund. * THE Ministry using the dilapidated building at Okahandja is first in line for blame for the woman’s death, closely followed by the Municipality which should be maintaining standards. * WE are tired of the bad smell from sewerage dams. Last month I went to Ondangwa Town Council and I talked to Mr Ndjodhi and he said he would do something about the dams. Until now nothing has been done and the dams are near to our houses, about 100 metres away. This is a health issue.* PLEASE Ondangwa Town Council, we are without streets bulbs in town, especially at Oluno.* NATIS Ongwediva improve your services, we are tired of queuing for the whole day. We need more of these* PLEASE Roshkor of Rosh Pinah, give each plot its own toilet, because we pay these tariffs. How can 50 people use one toilet?Labour Issues* THERE are increasing unfair labour practices by our national airline towards ground staff at the international airport. The working environment is no longer conducive for any human being. I call on labour and equity experts in GRN to pay us a visit any day and just chat to the staff. They will be surprised by the number of hours and the work and how we get remunerated. Sometimes we do up for 20 hours a day from start to finish. Management lacks vision for us and are only there to feed their pockets with our sweat. We have had enough this time around. Government please save us.- Tired Workers* I WOULD like to add my view about the challenges facing the adult literacy promoters regarding their salary increases.- ConcernedNBC* WHY is NBC only broadcasting the English Premier League? We do not pay our TV licence for the EPL only. At least show us the highlights of the Spanish La Liga and Serie A.* NBC we need television in Bethanie, otherwise we will not know what is happening in Namibia.* NBC why are you repeating Big Brother highlights on Saturday? Service Please* PORTUGAL Oshikango please call your workers to order. On November 13, I went to hand in my parcels to the lady outside when she told me to go inside, where she was sitting, and do it myself because she was tired.* IS it fair for MTC to initiate promotions for free calls when the network is unable to handle the congestion? Where is the Communications Commission? We are not able to make important calls when faced with difficult situations. One can easily lose his or her life.* I AM tired of Standard Bank’s poor service. I opened my account at Walvis Bay branch a long time ago while I was in school. Now I’m working and studying in Windhoek. When I wanted to change my account to Windhoek, I was told I must go back to Walvis Bay to change it.- Pandu, WindhoekSporting* THE NPL and teams based in Windhoek must work out a plan to sell tickets in advance at strategic points across the whole of Windhoek to avoid the scramble at the gates. – OMM* PLEASE BA Supporters Club, tell us who we can contact to get involved. I am in Walvis Bay. We want membership cards and direct contact with the head office.Lost And Found* MR J Cooper DoB 6108230500412 your driver’s licence has been found. Please call 081-124-9142.* I AM RT Shapumba. I lost all my documents in Grootfontein. If found call or SMS to 081-351-4022.* FOUND lost ID for Henok Hanyana. Please call 081-367-0782.
