SMSes Of Friday 25 September 2009

* CAN anybody see the point in spending billions in making electricity available to everybody when those who have never had it can’t afford it. It just makes it unaffordable to thousands more people.

* I HAVE a record of former presidents such as J Chissano (of Mozambique), Ketumile Masire and Festus Mogae (of Botswana). They left a remarkable history and wealth of experience which their peers can emulate. Their wise administration skills demonstrated over the years they were in power, which earned them respect, was why they were entrusted with noble tasks after their retirement. They didn’t look back and continued to perform their job with distinction. Some of the important duties they did are peace settlements in countries like DRC, Lesotho, Uganda, Southern Sudan and even in environment welfare. Now my attention will focus on our former president. Does he not want to associate himself with the club of these great statesmen? Is the hate speech a trail he set for us to follow as tomorrow’s leaders. Dr Nujoma’s popularity should be equated by wisdom and anything he said could be a valuable lesson for us to enrich our knowledge. When will the policy of national reconciliation take root if not nurtured well, but just be a piece of paper. I want to see Dr Nujoma taking the lead in narrowing the gap existing between different ethnic groups as a Father of the Nation. – Concerned citizen, WanahedaFood For Thought* REALLY sad that people, if you can call them people, can be so cruel to animals and throw them in dumpsters. The wheel will turn!* BEING a teacher for 10 years, I feel offended by T Aupindi’s salary per month which is far more than what I earn per year. I have produced doctors, lawyers, accountants and engineers, and have therefore made a bigger positive impact on the lives of my fellow citizens than Aupindi and his ridiculous turnaround strategy and three wasted years in NWR. Election Fever* I AM afraid that many people will not qualify for the elections. It is not clear if those of us who have already had cards since 2005 must go for registration again that will end on September 30 or will we use them for the upcoming elections. Please make it clear, because we are not sure.* ECN tell us what qualifications we, the unemployed youth, need to have to be registration/election supervisors or is it only for people who are directors in government positions? Politics* IN response to an SMS stating: I won’t bother to vote – all parties are just talk and no action. Only Swapo has been in power for nearly 20 years now, that’s where we the voters come in. We can change this by giving another party a chance that can better manage the taxpayers money, also lift the ban on The Namibian newspaper, put an end to people getting $140 000 per month and thereby get for ourselves an independent president. Make no mistake we the voters are very important people.* WITH southern African countries trying to attract tourism during the World Cup year of 2010, the comments of the Founding Father about beating up Englishmen with hammers to their heads could have cost Namibia millions of dollars in lost revenue. England will be one of the best-supported teams at the World Cup but how many will visit here after those comments? * IN response to Baloyi for commending the Founding Father on hate speech against white people, are you for real? Poor Namibia, God have mercy on our country if we have people like you supporting such statements publicly for that matter.* PLEASE fellow Namibians respect your adults, the Founding Father of the Nation is an adult. He needs our respect and whether what he said was wrong or what. Please ignore or don’t write these unrespectful behaviours. You must know there are kids in this country, our leaders of tomorrow. Please people respect our leaders.* SOME people are making a lot of noise about the Father of the Nation. Shame on them, he is a true hero. – Harry* THE people of Namibia, please stop calling The Father of the Nation ‘ex-president’. He is founding President Sam Nujoma our Founding Father of the Nation.- Maria Angala, Okongo* I’M just wondering what will happen to the current Prime Minister seeing that the former one is coming back next election.General* IT’S sad that consent could be given for an inter-country adoption considering our small population. Is this truly in line with the African Charter and The Convention on the Rights of the Child?* IT was decided a long time ago that Agribank should consider resettled emerging farmers for loans, but in vain. Although the farmers have applied since then, there has been no talk about the loan processing. – Migu* IF the Spy Bill is passed, is there a possibility that our SMSes to The Namibian could be intercepted? Will The Namibian’s SMSes page be the same as before?Bouquets and Brickbats* THANK you the editor of The Namibian and Christof M for still telling it like it is. Ex-soldiers caught in scam, The Namibian, September 16.- Katima Simbilingani.* I AM watching your SMS column and have no problem with the views on them. There is only one problem and it is that the SMSes have become campaigns for some parties. It also carries instigations against persons and parties respected by other people. Will it be good if we the others take up the same attitude?- In an election campaign year, there will obviously be many comments of a political nature. What we are trying to do, while reflecting the position on the ground, is to give as fair a picture of events as we can. – Newsdesk* WHAT happened to the movie ‘Where Others Wavered’? The public needs info where to obtain it.* THE Assistant to the Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Namibia The Ven Lukas Katenda His Sunday service at St Michael’s Parish was one of my most remarkable in my Christian life. Your preaching touched my heart. No doubt you are called by the Almighty God to save the lost sheep. A humble request to make a seminar every year in Windhoek as many Namibians can greatly benefit from your divine spiritual preaching. May the power of the Almighty God continue to work through you and save souls. – Muupange K. There for a reason* CITY of Windhoek, thanks for the speed bumps in Heliodoor Street. It’s going to be fun to listen to the hooligans encountering them for the first time on Saturday night.City Fathers Please …* WHY is the municipality not putting a pedestrian crossing along Hosea Kutako Drive, where the Poly students are crossing, or are we waiting for lives to be lost before acting? – Regards Edwin* HOW many Police are employed in the Government of Namibia? Please control the whole Windhoek day and night, especially in Katutura. We are sick and tired of thieves. They are finishing our economy, especially those government garages behind Sam Nujoma Stadium. There are security guards but people keep on stealing our things. Please do something.- Pekesha.Education* AFRICA brain drain! Mr (Albert) Kawana no one goes to university to be denied opportunities to apply their knowledge. They remain in Europe to apply their knowledge where it is welcomed. The inferiority complex practised in Namibia is the biggest development enemy. The current system doesn’t promote the well educated. Work on giving the well educated an obscured platform and see how they will come and develop Africa.* BRING back morals into our schools for a disciplined nation. Ministry of Education why can’t we create and implement a subject, health education, where our learners can be taught specifically about diseases, the toilets at the schools and public places are abused. Also road safety, with great despair I have observed how our children walk in the road even on their way to or from schools. The worst part of it is in the heart of the central business centre. This aspect is too huge to be integrated with natural science at upper primary phase.- Sammbusim* IS this free education? This is the SMS from Suiderhof Primary School: Your Gr 1 child has been accepted for 2010 at Suiderhof P S. Pls come to the school immediately if you are still interested, or else your place will be given to another child. Bring N$800. Please don’t call this number. You can call 081-127-4660* ETSIP, if school fees will be cancelled at primary schools, how do you pay for all expenses at the school? Running The Show* NAMIBIAN Government, why do you give all building projects to the Chinese? Namibia has enough building contractors! You, the government are increasing the unemployment rate!* THIS question is to the Hon Minister of Works and Transport. My driver’s licence expired in February 2009. I immediately applied for another one and up until now my licence is not available at Natis. Is that really possible? If yes, please explain because to me this is too long. * THERE are more young and qualified teachers on our streets. Why doesn’t the Ministry of Education ask all old teachers above 55 years to go on early retirement to give the youth a chance to also contribute to the development of Namibia?- HD!* I WANT to know from the Ministry of Defence what the children who were born exile really did, because all benefits and privileges belong to them especially in the MoD. It is not even fair.In And From The Regions* PLEASE NBC, do something to update your signal for the NBC National Radio and Oshiwambo service. It used go off air every day in the morning and evening. What is wrong? No signal at Otjiwarongo. Why are other radio stations always heard? Please act NBC director. Help us in this regard.- Wow
