SMS Of The Day
n OUR Government is selling our beautiful country out to the Chinese. Poor quality construction and goods and criminality is to be expected in the future. Not to mention the maltreatment of our labour force by ignoring our labour laws. When will the government wake up?
– Namibian Patriot.

Food for Thought*I SUGGEST that pedestrians also be fined for violating traffic rules. They are as guilty as the taxi drivers and they also put their lives and the lives of others at risk.Bouquets and Brickbats*WELL done WikiLeaks. I was always suspicious why so many Chinese flock to Namibia and Chinese companies get all the construction contracts at the expense of Namibians. We are brainwashed by our leaders about them having helped us during the liberation struggle. I have never seen China in our history books! The Government must stop receiving Chinese loans now! China’s strategy is to drown stupid African countries in debt and claim everything (settling their families and setting up cheap mahala business here etc) including our freedom soon! Don’t forget the Chinese bursaries given only to Ministers’ children. President (Hifikepunye) Pohamba must answer the nation about the lastest WikiLeaks facts revelation. Now I undersatd why the Chinese here seem untouchable. Last time they bullied the former Veterans Minister at ‘China Town’ and now they busy closing businesses in the North. New colonialism? Wake up Namibia!- JK*THANKS to The Namibian for bringing WikiLeaks news on the front page as it shows how important transparency and openness are in our global society. Yet WikiLeaks is under threat. Thank you for standing up for a more open and fair society.*IS our government giving our country away to the Chinese? Thousands of them get preferential treatment while our people starve.
Wikileaks*DEAR Prime Minister, Nahas Angula, is WikiLeaks revelation that 5 000 Chinese families (were brought in) as a payback for a loan true? If no, what is the true figure of the Chinese-Namibian citizens who are here?n THE cost is much higher than the 5 000 Chinese appears. They do not bank here, they export hard cash, they take up opportunities of our people.*WHAT happened to the loan which was paid back in 5 000 passports to Chinese? What did that loan do?*IT is a shame that our Government exchanged 5 000 passports for Chinese nationals for a loan.*NO wonder they want to suppress information. WikiLeaks states it clearly. No wonder the Chinese act freely!*RESPONSE to Rambler critic: I greatly enjoy the Ramblers ‘sarcasm’! The articles are thought-provoking, critical and often hilarious! Keep it up!!*I AM so disappointed with Windhoek radio stations’ presenters who read sports news from the newspapers without crediting the source. It’s so embarrassing. Talk of qualification or lack of it!*I AM a very proud Namibian but was disappointed when I arrived from Cape Town on Tuesday morning to find dirty rest rooms in appalling condition at the Walvis Bay airport. We can learn something from SA airports and should start working and not sit around in the sun all day!Education*I FIND it difficult to understand how Oshana Education Region shortlists candidates for interviews to fill principals’ posts. They should make their criteria known to the public, especially the ones used to shortlist candidates for Okatana CS, Oshakati SS, Uunona CS and many others whose interviews were conducted recently.Paper Trail*IF the Immigration Act says that a domiciled person is entitled to live and work in Namibia, then please why do we have to get a re-entry visa every 3 months?*I AM in full support of Warden regarding the domicile article of December 13. We have also been waiting for two years for my husband’s domicile permit and are desperate. If they want to start a petition there will be many folk ready to sign and strengthen his case.-Dominique, WindhoekHoliday Travel*AS we are aware a lot of people are travelling back to their homes or going on holiday for the festive season. Unfortunately not everybody has the privilege of owning their own private transportation to get them to their destinations thus they have to rely on public transportation. Public or long distance transportation was introduced I presume to make it easier and less expensive for people to travel to their various destinations. But what I shock I got, and this happens every year during any holiday period, how the prices just skyrocket and nothing is done about it. The Namibia Bus and Taxi Association (Nabta) is quick to warn their drivers not to exploit passengers by overcharging people, but they don’t have any measures in place to ensure that this does not happen. One Monday I took a family member to the public transport at Monte Cristo, she was charged between N$250 and N$300. She only had hand luggage, this was the cheapest fare she could get. The same week, my mother (a pensioner), brother (school going age) and three children all under the age of five (5) also went to Monte Cristo going North, and she was charged close to N$900 for all of them including their luggage. Pure exploitation. Bear in mind the normal rates are N$165 to the North. Nabta what are you doing? – Jeane Namhadi, Windhoek*I AGREE with the SMS that minibuses to the North kill more people, but that does not exonerate others. I have been worried about minibuses between Rehoboth and Windhoek, they look old to say the least. Are they roadworthy?- El VaqueritoRunning the Show*WHAT is going on at the Ministry of Works? The officials are not working for their pay. The Minister should wake up and see that his people start doing something. Please follow the footsteps of the Education Ministry.City Fathers Please…There is a law*IS there no law restricting loud music in residential areas? For example if your neighbour plays loud music anytime even if no party is taking place, day and night, when others are sleeping. In and From the Regions*THE people of Swakopmund should stop worrying about how the Strand Hotel will look and more about the unemployment. This hotel will bring in much needed capital and Mr Sven Thieme knows what he’s doing. PS. Saying the hotel will turn into the Titanic is absurd.*I WISH to congratulate Cde V Abisai from Ongwediva constituency for winning this election. I trust he is capable of pushing development to a higher level in our constituency. I urge him to work hard.- NH Eefadoukadona, Ongwediva constituency.*THANKS to the new governor at Omusati Region. We hope she will make some changes in our region.*KAVANGO has been given a governor, though contrary to the expectations and wishes of many, the man has been overlooked and neglected with his education background for too long in Kavango. He is a capable, wise young man. It is high time now to give a chance to highly educated people for these people have good vision for programmes.*WE the community of Omega need development. Electricity, roads and other infrastructure. Why do they do it?
*PLEASE municipalities create jobs by appointing people to pick up the rubbish along the road between Windhoek and Swakopmund. There are beer bottles everywhere. Shame on the Namibians.- DriverLabour Issues*THE law of our country says when you earn under N$3 000, you shouldn’t be taxed. Are workers at Woermann Brock workers earning under 3000 supposed to pay tax?- Concerned employee.*NAMIBIANS have the new found ‘skill’ needed for jobs and tenders in Nam. Putting up big party flags, party colours in your car, wearing party colours and condemning other parties and you are assured of a top job. As long as we don’t change that people will not acquire the necessary skills for jobs.Law and Order*IF you hear a scream, please don’t take it lightly. It happened in the South and then North. Never ignore a strange sound in your neighbourhood. Save and protect a woman’s precious life.*AS there is no law requiring one to walk around with a receipt for electronics, random requests for receipts by the police is a plain stupid idea, and just a nuisance.*MESSENGER of the Court’s stolen money, Electoral Commission of Namibia’s stolen laptops, GIPF’s lost funds. All such crimes not inside jobs with or without accomplices?Education*HOW do we expect the students of the rural areas to pass with flying colours if they have to study by candlelight? We know that many shacks burn down due to candles. Please Dr (Abraham) Iyambo help us out. We want to study at night under lights that are safe. I am writing this because I almost lost all my belongings while studyinNo failing please*ALL learners should repeat when they fail! Why must Grade 11s be excluded? If you didn’t master the year’s course in Grade 11, you’ll get poor results in Grade12! The transfer policy must be scrapped! I’m sure Dr Iyambo will do it. He’s a Minister who’s using his brain.*DR Iyambo learners of Highline SS need text books next year please. It was really a despondent story about the Grade 11’s failing and having to enrol for Namcol.Service Please*BANK Windhoek Otjiwarongo. It is true the branch is untidy, especially when the cleaner is off duty. The branch is big and can do with an extra pair of hands. Where are our service fees going?
