* AMAZING what BIG has done to the pilot communities. They can get the N$100 from my salary. At least it helped to feed the marginalised.

 Food For Thought
 * I THINK our Constitution should also be amended to allow our lawmakers to serve the country for a period of not more than 10 years.

Food For Thought
* I THINK our Constitution should also be amended to allow our lawmakers to serve the country for a period of not more than 10 years. Because some of these people become stagnant, contributing nothing to the wellbeing of our nation!
* MY advice to the leaders of Namibia’s political parties. Please address your rallies without criticising the opposition parties. If you are saying you can improve on what the others didn’t, how are we sure that you will?
* WE have two groups of children of the struggle in this country, the first group is the children of the economic struggle (born here and unemployed) and the other one is the children of the liberation struggle (born in exile and unemployed). Why should the other group make so much noise like they are the only ones eligible for employment. All Namibian youths, whether born here or outside the country should get an equal share of the cake. They are all facing the same hardships. So, my advice to you is study, create projects, be innovative, job hunt until you pass out. That’s the Namibian way. I was unemployed for 10 years until recently, but never gave up. So don’t despair or waiver. – Stam

Whys And Wherefores
* DEAR fellow Namibians, I’m very ashamed to ask this question. Why do we human beings wear panties and underwear? – Don’t be ashamed, and never be afraid to ask. According to Wikipedia, underwear is worn to keep outer garments clean for longer, to ‘provide support to parts of the body’ and for extra warmth when it’s cold. – Newsdesk

Response On Recording Studio
* MUSICIANS who are not yet operating on a commercial basis and need a studio to record music can try NamCol in Katutura, where a small studio has been set up for such purposes, according to our information.

General
* IT’S sad when a single mom loses her income because the GRN tender was taken from her and given to some influential people who charge the GRN 3 X more for the same product.
* NAMIBIANS be aware, be warned. Compare the interest rate charges when applying for loans at various financial institutions. I was shocked to find out that some institutions are charging higher interest between 24% and 35%. Any how I was also delighted to find one charging 20,4%
* DEMOCRACY means popular rule not popular expression. – H Lucas
* WITH so many promising investments coming our way, why is the state so slow in making this a reality? Here reference is made towards power stations, Absa bank, Bank PHB, oil refinery and road networks. Yes some may be risky, but that’s the whole point, taking risks – calculated risks. We are behind you in terms of development within the region! If we can spend billions on state-owned entities, knowing they will fail year on year (Air Namibia), we might as well take the above mentioned risky projects. At least we’d know where money went to.

Politics In General
* THE governing party the ANC lost support in 5 of 9 provinces and was dealt an emotional blow with the resounding victory of the Democratic Alliance in the Western Cape. Congratulations to the people of SA for voting wisely. – Kamati

And Justice For All
* HARD to believe that a self-confessed axe murderer was allowed bail of N$3 000. During the eight months he was free, he could have killed again.
* WELL done to Judge K van Niekerk for making a very difficult but brave decision in the Kukame child murder case. She has shown that our judiciary is still fearless and independent and is serious about the right to a fair trial.

Children Of The Struggle
* WHY does the Government want to give those who were born in exile jobs and free education? For what? What about us who were left in the country? Then you told us that we must vote for what reasons? – Peter Dengu
* I AM concerned about the war veterans’ kids who are camping at Swapo office in Windhoek. I want to know, who is taking care of these kids during the evenings because some of them are pregnant. Are condoms being distributed to them? – Uzuni Kapiru Ndama, Rundu

Sewerage Concerns
* ONDANGWA Town Council CEO: Are you aware that four people have already been treated at Onandjokwe Hospital for sewerage water borne diseases from Oluno dam (behind Eshambuko store) why can’t you do something before many fall victim?

Labour Issues
* THE Judiciary, Chief Justice, Judge President, JSC and the Magistrate Commission must seriously look into the salaries and benefits of magistrates and all judicial officers in the public service. These are specialised professionals and must surely be paid more than directors in government. Check the SA packages for magistrates to compare with ours.
* NATIONAL Planning Commission, Directorate of CBS. The survey interview that took place on 23/01/09 at different Regional Councils. When are you going to release the names, and the starting date? Whenever I call 061-2834000, the response is always after two weeks. It is now the end of April. Please employ us.
* UNITED Africa management please the place where their security guard used to spend their night on duty is disappointing. These guys are suffering. It is winter time now! – Shuudeni
* WELCOME on board the gravy train. Roads Authority and the union leaders inform the staff during the information sessions that management will not receive any salary increases (April fool). But the housing allowances of the management have been increased by more than 60% which on average represents 22% of their basic salary contrary to the 8% increment of the staff members. Who is fooling who?

In And From The Regions
* POTHOLES on the Rundu-Divundu tarred road, especially between Rundu and Mupapama. But the most important is that the RCC camp is between the mentioned areas. They stay blind while driving over them. One death and unaccountable damage to properties. Manager please come. – WMMS, Rundu
* OSHILUNGI SCHOOL in Onankali area with learners up to Grade 10 needs electricity. We don’t see development here. – Twavulwa Onyalo
* MINISTRY of Health, why at Rundu Health Training Centre are they training some student nurses who failed Grade 12 and not even done interviews for first years in 2009.
* I AM concerned about the service at the Omaruru Hospital. I asked for permission from my supervisor to take my aunt to the hospital. We were referred to the doctor from around 09h30 but the doctor only turned up at 12h32. I asked around and was told it is an everyday thing. Some of the patients are waiting for hours and are here without breakfast.
* I AM hurt and angry that 19 years after Independence, we still have the bucket toilet system, that while we fought for better housing NHE is building us matchboxes, etc. How long should we endure this, fellow countrymen?
* CAN the Ministry of Health do something about our ambulance driver at Otavi who is often on leave or off duty. We have thousands of people with valid driving licences in Otavi who can volunteer. Please.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* THE Ties That Bind. Thanks to the actors, organisers, supporters and sponsors. It is educative, informing. I salute you. Keep it up. – NBC viewer
* NO potholes, no sewerage water, no crime, no dirty streets. Now overtime can be claimed because Christmas lights that hung for two years are gone. Thank you Okahandja Municipality. Well done. We hope and pray that President (Hifikepunye Pohamba) will visit us every month. Osona military base was also empty cause the soldiers were on a cleaning operation. – Taxpayer
* GARDEN town is the place to be. Thanks to the President who will visit the garden on Cassinga Day our town is now clean. Police are on duty 24 hours, municipality workers worked the whole weekend. Thanks to the President, you saved us.
* IT is important to raise and maintain high standards and not good enough to retort that ‘some got it’. Point remains it was lame and embarrassing. Just because some got it doesn’t make it witty or literary. Furthermore, quite petty and defensive to say did I even read the story, honestly. It is a sign of maturity and grace not to only be able to ‘tell it like it is’, but to accept being told like it is. – We absolutely agree on the importance of raising and maintaining high standards. Equally, we continue to beg to differ on the issue. In most people’s books, the headlines in question were not only good, but sharp. We accept that you think it was lame; you’re entitled to your view. One of the aims of a headline is to entice the reader to read the story. The headlines did their job in both cases. – News Editor
* I RECENTLY commented on the Ndeshi & Jakes cartoon strip’s (lack of) entertainment value and I must say, it’s getting … worse! – Theo – Not everyone has the same sense of humour! Different people laugh at different things. For example, some people love ‘South Park’, others hate it. – News Editor

Sporting
* IN the April 23 2009 paper, it was wrongly reported that Hotspurs are bottom of the log with only three points. Also the news is usually late, with games played on Sundays only being reported in the Tuesday paper. Please editor look into this, we the readers would not mind paying a dollar or two more if that what it cost to get more accurate news and as soon as possible. Thank you – The team that has six points is not Hotspurs but Chief Santos. Mighty Gunners are in fact at the bottom of the table. It was a mistake and we apologise for that. We are unable to get some of the Sunday results into Monday’s paper as some matches are played late and are well after the printing deadlines. We will try to bring you the results as quickly as we can and as we get them in future. – Sports Desk

Note: Polygamy
* PLEASE note that the latest SMSes on polygamy will appear in this week’s The Weekender, together with an article on the issue.
