* FELLOW Namibians stop being selfish and help one another in need against crime. If somebody screams, everybody run to help, be it a lady in heels or gentlemen in a designer suit. Tomorrow it might be you. This is how it was done in the old days. It’s an African culture so please let’s go back to this practice and put thieves to shame.

It is not going to be easy at first but if we persist we will emerge winners.
* WHAT about social responsibility? I see the streets of Windhoek are shining with the new expensive street signs replacing the ones used all over the world. MTC could have better invested the money instead of purchasing those expensive street posts. That money could be used to assist the struggling municipality with servicing the erven in the poor arrears where the poor residents are struggling to obtain erven to have a place called home. After all, the poorest are the biggest investors/subscribers that MTC is boasting about with their 1 million subscriptions. The same goes for Coca-Cola and Namibian Breweries. Their supporters are among the poorest. Come on guys. Sponsor at least a few toilets, water taps, and streetlights. If you want more info, please get my number from the newspaper and we can get the ball rolling for the development of our communities.

Food For Thought
* WHY don’t the people at the flood victims’ centre dig their own latrine pits?
* LET the ex-combatants boycott the elections. It won’t make any difference. I am tired of hearing of the shenanigans of these so-called veterans as if they liberated this country by the barrel of the gun. What about those of us who hid, fed and clothed them? What about our properties that were destroyed? If Swapo is only for returnees then they should tell us.

Bouquets And Brickbats
* MY sincere appreciation to Ms Inge Grotzinger (chief taxation officer) at the Ministry of Finance, Sub-division: Training. Thank you for your excellent service and professionalism. – Bonifatius Bonyfil, Windhoek College.
* SOMETIMES I cannot imagine how our lives would have been without cellphones, the City Police and the Internet. City Police keep up the good work. – Ben
* NDESHI & Jakes of April 6 is feminist and just like male chauvinism is sexist, feminism also is. We don’t want an exact opposite of the past but genuine equality. For example if we criticise men like that we must also release them from society’s expectation of being breadwinners so each partner works for him/herself. I agree we still have a long way to go to give women opportunities but we must also be fair to men.
* I CAN’T believe some soldiers in the NDF still have a civilian mentality. I don’t want complaints on this page from NDF soldiers ever again. Otherwise you need to be sorted out. We have suggestion boxes. Don’t strike against security. That’s what I learned at military school as a new soldier. – Angula SK
* I FLEW last Thursday morning to Johannesburg with Air Namibia and it was not bad at all. What a pleasure it was. Thank you very much.
* THE security guard who alerted Security Forces on the gambling house attempted robbery should be recruited in the Namibian Police, because he did the nation proud just like the Oshana Regional Police cadres who just got promoted for a job well done.
* WELL done MPs for increasing citizenship by marriage to 10 years.

Law & Order
* AN idea. I have a slogan that I would like you to publish and advertise in your newspaper every day. ‘You mess with one Namibian, you deal with all Namibians. Together we eliminate crime’. Get people used to this slogan and shout it out when in trouble and others will know their help is needed.
* THAT resident from Windhoek who wants the City Police to be more empowered than the NDF, you should know that the NDF is there to protect the City Police, NamPol and all civilians like you. – Khuvex
* RESIDENTS of Rocky Crest beware. There is a group of people last seen on Saturday, April 4, in a white Isuzu KB single-cab bakkie engaging in housebreakings. Their tactic is go to a house they believe has no one home and throw bottles to see if there is any reaction. If there is none they enter the premises and try to force open a window using a battering ram. Their last attempt was at 13h30, in this case the battering ram was a taxi rank sign reading ‘Taxi rank 31′. If you know anyone who had this sign in their backyard or garage please contact the Police immediately. There is a N$300 reward for information that leads to arrests. All residents of Rocky Crest are urged to request the City Police to patrol the area street by street. We pay rates and taxes, the city must give us the protection we deserve. It only requires one car doing rounds every two hours or so. Residents are also urged to watch over their neighbours’ houses for the better security of all.

Time To Talk
* THE winter time change is confusing us, please leave the time like it is. – SUMMER and winter time is not a Government issue. The reason for time lines is geographical.
* VIVA time change. A joy for kids who can get up and go to school in the light and have wonderful long evenings for homework. And for their moms, who don’t have to get up in the dark cold morning to make sandwiches. We love winter time!
* THOSE complaining about the time change are the ones without children. How would you feel about your child going to school early in the mornings while it’s still freezing? The time change is due to winter. Think Namibians, think.
* IF the justification for the time change is schoolchildren, why don’t they just change the school hours? Now adults have to walk home in the dark after work and get robbed.

Politics
* BARACK Obama is my president, so Swapo and RDP mean nothing to me. But when SPYL threatens and terrorises Mr Muhammad and Mr Sheya, the managers of the best public school in the region, they harm Namibian education and soil the image of Namibian democracy.
* WHAT a double standard? How many public workers, teachers included, sport Swapo colours on the dashboards of their cars at the workplace? When has the SPYL ever made a noise about it?
* WHAT is the difference between school kids going to an RDP march and the school kids we see in The Namibian pictured at a Swapo march? Before Swapo people complain about something wrong done by other parties they must watch out what is around them because all political parties have the same rights, including Swapo Party.

Politics In General
* BARACK Obama did not wear Democratic Party colours when he was inaugurated [as President of the United States].
* HAIL to Jacob Zuma! Don’t worry Mr J, this tribulation will pass in no time. And more positively, these trying times and experiences will produce the most dedicated, robust, committed leader in you that has ever graced our Mother Continent. So just hold tight on the rope, and don’t let go. We are a 100 per cent behind you. – SS \\Gowaseb, Khorixas

Running The Show
* THE director, personnel finance and administration, Ministry of Safety and Security, please organise your directorate, it’s totally upside down.
* OUR Government, we the mothers of this country are pleading for you to help us. Every day a woman is killed but nothing is being done to these evil men. Change the law before it’s too late.

Old Soldiers
* SWAPO Party! Please pay our war veterans, what they did in the past is very important. Please we must respect them. Please you have been making empty promises since 1999 when they left Angola.

City Fathers Please
* PARLIAMENT Garden, so beautiful! What prevents that after weekends the garbage is taken away?
* MUNICIPALITY please do something about the lights in the Robert Mugabe Avenue tunnel. They have be
en off for months and it’s really a risk for both motorists and pedestrians considering its pitch black inside there.
* CITY of Windhoek, why do you only grade roads when we complain? What is the policy for grading the untarred roads? – Frustrated Kigali Street residents, Wanaheda

General
* HOW credible are these SMS competitions mushrooming in The Namibian newspaper? Are they valid or just money-making scams? – Porra

Air Waves
* WHEN is Tebs Xulu going to stop behaving like a censor or a cheerleader for the ruling party instead of a presenter? He works for a public broadcaster and gets his pay cheque from the taxpayer.
* MR Utoni Nujoma, if freedom of speech and expression is so important to you as in your response to Mrs (Nora Schimming)-Chase, why were you tight-lipped when Open Line and the Chat Show were cancelled by your Government?

In And From The Regions
* THE owners of the shebeens that burnt down ask for donations! Can anyone donate the life of the young man that burnt to death? Please, show sympathy! My condolences to the family.
* WHILE one person is claiming thousands and millions of dollars our own people are suffering in remote areas: no safe drinking water, no electricity, long distances to health facilities. And what do we mean by sustainable development? I feel pity for kids starting school at the age of 12 years. This is the age they are able to carry their own food and stay at homes near school. I refer to people living east of Onkumbula. Vakwetu! – Ngame
* DOES the Government really care for its people? How can we receive 12,5 kg of maize meal per house as drought/flood relief food. Oh! Since we have registered last year! Does it happen to other villages or only at Omufitu-Weelo. Can it serve us for a year? Seniors let us think critically. – Concerned villager!
* THE issue of sustainable development should be looked at in order to mitigate the occurrences of natural disasters in the country. Please regional councils and municipalities in all regions stricken by flooding, can you think about it after done with the recovery programmes. – F Sampaya, DRM Student
* SHAME on Oshakati Town Council! First you fail at relocating residents as promised, now you blame ‘investigations’ and withhold emergency food.
* I WOULD like to find out from the Town Council of Ongwediva why they do not pick up or remove the garden refuse at the new reception area like any other residential areas in Ongwediva.
* TO the managers of the following shops in Grootfontein: Spar, Etosha, OK Foods, Bears, Pep, Ackermans and Lewis. Please tell your casuals and employees to stop asking money from us, the customers. We don’t want to go into the shops anymore because of this!

Service Please
* CAN Shell or Total or BP bring us a new fuel service station at Omuthiya, at the only one in town – Gerry Service Station – the 95 fuel pump is forever broken. They do not care that there are many customers in this new town.
