SMS Of The Day
*TO all anti-gay people, you should count yourself lucky that you are not gay or don’t have a family member who is gay. You haters make life very difficult for gay people.
– Parent of a gay child

Food for Thought*Corruption can only go down when those involved are publicly exposed. When they are covered for or protected they will just continue with what they are good at – self enrichment. We demand the exposure of those involved?Bouquets and Brickbats*I APPLAUD Kaure for not registering to receive the veterans’ pay! If all the people who earn above 10 000 per month told the Government to donate their portion to raise the old age pension, this country could’ve moved in the right direction. It’s a shame that we love money more than we care for our elders! Shame on us.*THE ‘starving’ photo on the cover of The Namibian dated February1 is really disgraceful. The rights of the little girl are being abused and being violated! We need more explanation on this.*OSWALD Shivute the picture on the cover of The Namibian dated Wednesday, February 1 is an insult to women. How on earth could you picture a naked girl in that sitting position and gladly publish it to the public? Spare all women some respect!*LEAVE Kaaronda alone! He is trying to reveal to us who the real enemies of Namibia are: anybody who engages in corrupt activities and steals from this country is the new Koevoet! How can we claim to be true Namibians and yet sabotage the country and its Government?*THE act of the civil servants indulging in porn sites is abominable. You need deliverance.- Chill pill*THE Anti-Corruption Commission should know that by finding no work- related data saved on civil servants’ computers does not mean they are not working. Today most people save their data on servers and not on the hard or c-drive. Therefore ACC don’t confiscate PC units and make judgements purely on what you find on them. Study what the civil servants have saved on their server files.*I AM so sick and tired of reading in the newspapers every day about ever increasing corruption and irregularities in public bodies such as the Tender Board. It is worse than what I observed even during the time of the South African regime. To the extent that a country once regarded as a paradise on the African continent is now regarded by Amnesty International as amongst the top three most corrupt countries in southern Africa! Mr President is it thus not time for action and at least restore confidence amongst Namibians in their own public bodies such as the Tender Board?*THANK you for printing my SMS! Now that we have tackled the Neckartal Dam mess and put it on hold, let’s start looking at the Government Institutions Pensions Fund and its new ‘scheme’ to help people renovate their houses etc. Why set up a middle person to do what the banks can do? Instead of this middle person, GIPF should talk to the banks to give that low rate after all the houses are mortgaged by the same banks! What corrupt minds is this country breeding?*LOOTING the coffers that you are supposed to safeguard? Can’t the high ranking Government officials responsible for stealing Government resources be exposed and be shown the door please!Politics*I AM terrified by the thought Pendukeni could be our next president. How about you?*INTERESTING to note that all over the world politicians dress formally when making public appearances. Also interesting to note that in Namibia they seem to favour wearing silly garments in party-political colours. Just an observation.Health Matters*I NEED help. I am pregnant but afraid to give birth at Otjiwarongo State Hospital. Some nurses there are too much. I would rather take the risk of giving birth at home.*MINISTER Richard Kamwi please do something about the offices of social workers at the old TB hospital. They are awful.Education*PLEASE can Dr Iyambo and Dr Namwandi help us trainees from Rundu Vocational Training Centre. We NTTC plumbers don’t have our level 2 certificates. There was an error on the certificates where pipe fittings was printed ‘pipi fittings’. We sent the certificates in October but have not received anything back.*DOES anyone know of schools in Windhoek that want books for their library?*MINISTER Iyambo what’s been happening at Dawid Bezuidenhout for the past years warrants a full-scale investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission. Angolan children who cannot even read or write, let alone speak, English are enrolled while Namibian children who are rightfully entitled to education are turned away. Is this fair?*A MESSAGE to all parents out there. Dear parents you must cut children’s nails each week please for hygiene purposes. A teacher cannot do that for you. Thank you.- Concerned teacherLabour Issues*THE WINDHOEK City Police must please release the names of the successful candidates. They are taking ages to give us feedback.Law and OrderBehind bars.*AT the Trans-Kalahari Police holding cells awaiting trial suspects, unable to afford bail, are being sodomised and not given any counselling. Raw pap and soup is the daily meal. Ombudsman, interview prisoners individually. Pay a surprise inspection visit. Then invite counsellors, traditional leaders and push for speedy trials.*THESE self-appointed car guards found all over Windhoek are a nuisance. Some of them are hobos and mentally retarded. To raise money for tombo one simply goes to a shopping complex parking area and waits for you to park your car, puts a piece of paper behind the wipers and then wait for the dollar.Who regulates these people?- Chiya-chengina, WindhoekIn and From the Regions*WE are tired of Selco. Every time it rains, Keetmanshoop is without electricity.*IT is very difficult being a public servant in Rosh Pinah. There is no official Government accommodation, renting is very expensive in town and our medical aid is not accepted at the private clinic. What are our regional leaders doing? We are serving the community.Suggestions BoxEverybody wants their own.*CAN we please set up a regulatory body for property prices? How on earth can a small house in Katutura be sold for N$600 000? A civil servant will never be able to afford that. Please let’s root out this greed and exploitation!
Service Please*PUBLIC Service Medical Aid Scheme. Please what service are you there for? On February 1, I spent the whole day calling this number, each time my call was forwarded without anyone picking it up! I wonder how many innocent Namibians go through this painful experience!- Limbo*MTC should consider the option of converting the free SMSes into airtime so we could trade them in.*MTC Onanke is one of the remotest areas connected to electricity but there is no network coverage. Please help us.Sporting*NBC your coverage of the Nations Cup is boring. No analysis during half-time, no pre match discussions. But next year when the Nations Cup goes to South Africa you will show us everything.Lost and Found*TARAH Hainana or anyone who knows him, I have his lost ID. Call me on 081-243-0230.*I ELIAKIM Titus (born February 1989) lost my wallet with driving licence and Poly student card. If found please call 081-373-4375.*I FOUND driving licence for Miss A Awases born 27-11-1953. Call 081-317-6365.*I SANIEL Shipefi lost my FNB holder at Wernhil with my ID and other documents. Please contact me at 081-404-4667.Responses to recent SMSes*REGARDING the ‘citizens to fight for freedom of movement’ article on February 1 in The Namibian. How can a reporter present a one-sided, biased and non-factual article such as this? Surely ‘facts’ in articles require verification before printing? Is The Namibian purely sensationalist, not caring about the truth? Surely it is time journalists are hauled over the coals when writing nonsense? Let’s see some truth out there! A newspaper we can be proud of!*SINCE when should the State side with and make the criminals heroes? It is well known that the Swakop River is used to hide from the police while driving drunk. Thanks to that Ministry of Environment official for fining the criminals who damage state property, the wildlife and plants and drive drunk at the risk of the public. Some of us are very proud of our country, our officers and love our new Dorob Park.*I STRONGLY support the SMS regarding the Ministry of Education’s student loan allocations. I was forced to defer my admission because I couldn’t get a concrete answer from them to support my study permit application despite fully completing the form with the admission letter intact. Please look into this, especially for SADC students.
