SMSes for Fri 22 May 09

* WE are scheduled for elections later this year, but I don’t see any effort from various parties in terms of attracting the electorate. I want to see televised debates between party leaders. I want to see intelligent debates taking place. I want an enthusiastic, dynamic and articulate president. Someone who can inspire our young nation and take it to greater heights.

I cannot go and vote for the sake of voting. I’m sick of talk and no action.
* LET us build our country and our destiny.

Food For Thought
* HOW is it possible that prisoners at Wanaheda and Windhoek Police holding cells have knives, sharp objects and drugs? Why are there no blankets, mattresses, cups, spoons or dining plates in these prisons? The soup and porridge are badly cooked. This is human rights abuse. I have seen it myself.
* GAM farmers spark a health crisis through their illegal conservancy invasion. What do the struggle adults spark through their irresponsible behaviour and their unhealthy attitude? – N Boois
Happy Birthday
* NUJOMA gwaNamibia you are the true son of this soil! What we are enjoying today is because of you! Happy 80th birthday! – Ndengombulu family
* THANK you tatekulu (Sam) Nujoma for sharing the vision of an educated Namibia!! It is my hope our leaders will now unpack this vision!!- Sheyouyuni
Politics
* I REFER to your publication date May 21 2009 that Founding President Tatekulu Sam Nujoma used to be a member of Swanu. Is that true?
* WHO are you, urging (President Sam) Nujoma – our Founding Father – to retire from politics? Was it you who encouraged him (Dr Nujoma) to embark on politics since 1950s? Nujoma is our Swapo political professor – Namibian national lion-hearted hero! For your own information, professors never retire from their careers! – Sacky Amutenya
* WHAT if The Namibian newspaper bans all Government officials from visiting The Namibian office or bans all Government officials from attending events organised by The Namibian until the Government lifts its ban on advertising in The Namibian. – Iiyela Abiatar
* I REALLY thank Mr Nghiwete for suing Mr Veikko Nekundi because he is damaging and destroying our party. He is suspecting everyone of not being loyal to Swapo. He should be informed before he acts.
* WE share the victory of Ambassador Veiccoh Nghiwete, the same way we were sentimental about the speculations brought against him and his colleague, the other PS. We have great respect for him just as he does for others. We, however, earnestly expect his ‘namesake’, Nekundi, to publicly apologise, on top of the fine he will be given, and clear the name of Ambassador Veiccoh Nghiwete. Additionally, the claim Ambassador Ngiwete put forth is not adequate in comparison to the real damage the PS has suffered in terms of slander, defamation or character assassination, whatever the term is. My advice to such people as Nekundi is that, one can build up his/her name or stand tall without stepping onto someone. Nghiwete is an example to all those who are persecuted in this manner to stand up and defend themselves in the courts of law.
* ABOUT the question of why Mr HH and Mr Kaire Mbuende were dismissed as ministers, news editor you just answered saying politics. How? Can you please tell us more about it? Because most of us are still in a dilemma.- Shawapo
Running The Show
* THE ministers that are not performing their work should be removed from their jobs. One of those ministries that do not perform is the Ministry of Immigration. Do you know that arresting officers are keeping foreigners in prisons for about three to four months?

Going Off The Rails
* I THOUGHT I was the only one having a problem with Chinese stuff. Oh, TransNamib is also a victim, about its luxury passenger train which can’t travel long distance. What a mess, the GRN must check their friends’ products. Maybe only the weapons during the war were of good quality. – Ndemufayo
Youth
* I THANK our respected President HE (Hifikepunye) Pohamba, for transparently reporting to the nation that the Ministry of Education returned N$7 million unused to the central coffers. Can these unused funds please be utilised for the establishment of a compulsory national youth service for Namibia, to prepare us to find jobs? – Unemployed youth
* WITH such shocking lack of insight and short-sightedness, it is my opinion that (Prime Minister Nahas Angula) should rather not make any pronouncements regarding compulsory national youth service since he is bringing the nation under the wrong impression. Tens of thousands of us, the youth, are unemployed. What have you done, Hon PM, as a member from the privileged class, to find international support to provide the facilities, to make CNYS a reality instead of assisting just the selected few? I am truly disappointed in your attitude.
Bouquets And Brickbats
* THANK you Home Affairs! I had a passport problem and a critical deadline so presented a new passport application at the counter at 08h30. By 14h00 the new passport was ready for collection! Now that’s service! No bribes, no special favours, just a ‘Please help’. I think many who get poor service possibly start with a poor attitude. A bit of friendly civility sometimes does wonders.
* CITY of Windhoek, thank you for the great idea of installing CCTV, closed-circuit television, in the city. What a brilliant idea. Now I will pay my municipal bill on time. Thank you to the Mayor and all those who were involved in making this a reality. We are sick and tired of the thugs who are following us around for our hard earned salaries.
* I WOULD like to commend NBC for the topic on Talk of the Nation on May 18 about youth empowerment. I noted the challenges mentioned. I would suggest that the NYC training be regionalised under Regional Councils, that money be availed by Central Government and Regional Councils will budget for this training yearly. This way we can accommodate enough youth that can be deployed in their respective regions.
* I USED to hear people complaining about Engela Hospital but the service I got there at the maternity ward was good. I went for my ANC visit in Windhoek and then Engela, but the routine is just the same. Nurses at Engela maternity ward are good and polite. Keep up the good work and don’t be discouraged. Thanks very much, God bless you.- A happy mother
* BEST service award to the personnel of Ward 7 West of Windhoek Central. Ouma Gous is missing your kind hands. Please note Dr (Richard) Kamwi, these people went a long way to keep your ministry’s name high! – Gous family
* COME on Mr (Bob) Kandetu, your column puts me to sleep! Please step out of the past! Tell us something relevant, contemporary, progressive, useful …
* LET’S give credit where it is due. I flew with Air Namibia from Eros to Lüderitz and the plane was clean and neat. Keep it up.
* WINNA Mariba of May 19 totally disrespected our mother. They must not make people do wrong things because of 100 dollars.
* PLEASE the Winna Mariba programme should not display naked women. That was a big embarrassment.
* CAN the Municipality explain the power outages in Klein Windhoek two mornings in a row now?
* AM I the only one who finds this ‘Petrolbuoy’, ‘Gardenbuoy’, ‘Deliverybuoy’ etc. advertising by Paybuoy (underwritten by Prosperity Insurance) downright racist? The creatives behind this (as well as the client for accepting the work, that’s if they did not send the specific brief) must at first be applauded for having the chutzpah to pull this off in 2009 Namibia, and then be sent to rehab for their Klipdrift and Coke addictions.- Vivaldo ‘call me buoy and I will… well, you know’
* I WOULD like to thank the CEO of Katima Mulilo Town Council for withdrawing his resignation. Our town is developing and this we see with our own eyes and this is due to your hard work and commitment in developing Namibia.
General
* NAMIBIA provides steel for carmakers they buy it and then we buy back (cars) from them instead of making them ourselves. – That happens with most products Namibia exports. Making things here is called value adding but it is not possible to do that in all cases, as with vehicles. – Newsdesk
* TO the person who wrote that Namibian kwaito is useless and that Namibians should enjoy house music instead. Just some advice, each has his own flavour. What you think is sweet, might be sour to me. Our local artists are doing a great job in the kwaito industry. We salute them.
* THE majority of Namibians earn around N$1 500 monthly. Some CEOs demand N$90 000 monthly. Serving the nation my foot.
* PARENTS keep your kids indoors and lock the gates please. I’m a resident of Soweto, Dekapolis Street. A riot of kids of 3 to 10 years old are just roaming around the street disturbing with a loud noise, jumping fences and throwing stones and breaking windows of other people’s houses. And when you talk to them, you will regret doing it because they will insult you until you freeze. But when a kid is raped and killed we make a noise. Please take care of your kids and teach them how to behave. Kids must play indoors, not on other people’s properties.
* IF it is estimated that 100 000 people are infected with swine flu in USA, please ban US visitors to Namibia and vice versa.
* ANYONE know where I can buy Coverderm? It’s a concealer for scars – SMS 085-585-7224
All In The Planning
* WAP demanding another week holiday? A teacher has approximately 10 weeks (paid) holiday per year plus every week a long weekend from Friday 13h00 till Monday morning! Planning is the magic word.
* CONCERNING the SMS from WAP criticising the Ministry of Education on the reopening of schools on May 26. Teachers had a four-week holiday. Being a teacher myself I planned ahead and all preparations for the first week of the new term were done before the holidays started. Well, as for parents, your child’s needs should be more important than spending on public holidays. – From concerned teacher
* MINISTRY of Education must do something. How can the schools reopen on May 26 while the 25th will be a public holiday? They must postpone it please.
* MINISTER of Education, this is a joke to re-open schools straight after Africa Day! Let the schools start on June 1. Be practical and realistic! – Devoted parent
Banking On You
* PLEASE explain the difference in deputy and assistant governor (of the Bank of Namibia)? Who is more senior, and what are their roles?- Bolle
Up In Smoke!
* SMOKE-HATERS, ask Government how much money it makes for tax coffers every year from tobacco and cigarette sales.
* RE public smoking. I recently returned to Namibia after some years and am horrified to have smokers next to me at every restaurant. How can Namibia be decades behind the world?
