* RCC how many lives do you want to see lost on the Rundu-Divundu tar road before you act? The road has holes like nothing. Two lives have been lost including a high ranking education officer who died on April 9 and one GRN vehicle written off, tyres burst and rims bent. To my surprise, two dangerous holes are exactly 300 metres the from RCC camp at Shambyu.

Action please. – Concerned pothole victim * THE Honourable Governor of Ohangwena Region is commanding us to kill any dog we see wandering in the streets of Oshikango. Let’s not be cruel to our pets people. SPCA please interfere because this situation is killing me.- Ngenoove Todipawa * WHAT is the difference between the Otjiherero-speaking farmers moving into Nyae Nyae and the Oshiwambo-speaking speaking farmers invading areas of Kavango? Food For Thought* IN Wednesday’s paper you have an article about ‘Flu meds…’. It mentions a host of symptoms of the H1N1 (swine flu). Myself and two other persons I spoke to went through 90% of the symptoms. I visited a local pharmacy and a private clinic. One of the other persons was at a State clinic. Can we still maintain that H1N1 is not around? I’m not sure. No health institution could pick it up. Are we safe? I’m willing to be tested though I think I am fully recovered.* I HOPE people realise that those masks they see people wearing on TV for protection from swine flu are virtually ineffective. They will not protect them like they think. Look it up.- CK – You are correct, and it’s a point we’ve tried to make in various editions of the newspaper. Washing your hands is regarded one of the most important things you can do in trying to deter flu. – News Editor* WHY is it that some of us take it personally when others are expressing their dissatisfaction with some ‘activities’ of either the former, the current President or other public figures? Please be a voice for the voiceless. All those people can speak for themselves like they always do when they so deem necessary. Happy Birthday* HAPPY Birthday to our founding father. – Bostander family, Oranjemund* HAPPY Birthday to you my uncle, I wish you many, many years to came again! You turned 80 years old. Personally, I thank you very much for what you did to rule our Swapo Party from 1960s until we got Independence in this country, Comrade, Your Excellency, our Founding Father, Hon Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma! Don’t stay away from us. We love you uncle. Long live.- Comrade Erastus Shuundeni, Walvis Bay Bouquets And Brickbats* WELL done all Namibians who took part in the recent HIV-AIDS testing programme. I also salute the organisers. They are true warriors. Keep up the good work. Together we can win.* WELL done to the City Police. I just wish you were in that area, Olympia, the night my father was killed for a cellphone and hi-fi without the speakers. That’s the only way justice will be served. When they were sent to court, they walked free, after reasonable doubt. Keep our country safe. Thanks for protecting us from them. I pray that God must protect you guys, because you lives are also not safe out there. Good luck. * THE Namibian and City Police in partnership with public assistance have made life impossible for criminals in Namibia, small wonder they moved operations to South Africa. Crime does not pay, wherever you try your luck. Well done to the law enforcers in both countries. I am proud of you * ACC and WAD do not give up. If doing the right thing is equal to being hypocrites so be it. * PLEASE get a proofreader, as your paper is littered with basic errors. It is rich of The Namibian to point fingers with regard to the street signs. Please sell us a quality product you can be proud of. No Namlish! – Thank you. We always appreciate errors being pointed out to us. But can you please help us by being more specific and providing examples as we are not sure what you are referring to. – News Editor* OSWALD Shivute of The Namibian we don`t understand whether it was the Swapo members who were complaining about the school kids going to the RDP rally, or RDP members who complained about pupils who went to the Swapo rally. I read this in The Namibian of Friday, May 8, on page 24. Please make it clear!* ANTON, Neo Paints, excellent service. Keep it up broer!Politics* I THINK it is high time that the political leaders of this country stop being prisoners of the past and be pioneers of the future.* NAMIBIA won’t become a winning nation unless we root out corruption, which has spread through every sphere of government like a smothering weed. One of the causes was Swapo blurred the boundary between party and state with disastrous consequences. People must understand that when a politician is corrupt he is stealing from you and making poor people poorer. Let’s support the corruption march.- Kamati * SWAPO must make sure to have two preferred candidates for the position of NBC DG next time, in case the one declines! Will save them embarrassment. * COMRADE Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma is still a member of Swapo Party that liberated this country and it’s Cde Nujoma who led the liberation struggle. Cde Nujoma has only retired from active politics but not from the Swapo Party. He is our hero, we are proud of what he has done our motherland and we want him to continue to inspire us the future generation. Please let him tell us the history. Let’s not be anti-history.- U2, Ongwediva. * WE followed the US presidential race last year and we now know how exciting politics can be from an educating perspective. Please don’t be boring by just reading speeches. Anybody can read a speech. Convince us how you plan to plan for the country`s problems.- LD * TO the APP leader. Thanks for taking my SMS about political debate seriously. Election time is near and I’m still not convinced who to vote for because the incumbent MPs don’t know how to debate. They waste time on non viable ideas for debate without researched responses. So I suggest you arrange with interested media platforms and parties for dates on selected topics – unemployment, health, poverty alleviation, education, etc. I suggest One Africa.- Concerned youth* I FULLY agree with Mr Shixwameni president of the APP that political leaders should be given a platform by the media to debate in order for the Namibian people to choose their leaders, especially the born free generation. * CONGRATULATIONS to the APP for having shown maturity during their Congress held on 1- 4 May 2009. Elections went smoothly and those elected are truly a reflection of what we need in Namibia. Shame on those who labelled the APP as a tribal party! * SWANU president do not fool people that under your leadership there will be free tertiary education. This is not feasible sir. Please opposition parties stop blaming Swapo for the sake of being opposition and be realistic.- Amoonga* ELIJAH Ngurare will go down in history as a notorious SPYL Secretary General who has led and created most ‘enemies’ out of nothing. He started attacking and demonising NSHR, LAC, ECN, Misa Namibia, NBC, The Namibian ACC, WAD, RDP,Swapo of Namibia founders and then State House. We (the peace-lovers) have been tolerating his nonsensical and cowardly attitude for quite some time but now we are running out of patience. He must shape up or ship out. Enough is enough!* NGURARE as quoted in The Namibian said that the Ombudsman, funded by taxpayers, brings (Dr Joe) Diescho to criticise the Swapo-led government. That would not be wrong because government tax is paid not only by Swapo income earners but by all Namibian income earners who belong to different political parties and whichever party led government. The Ombudsman’s Office has a right to right the wrong doings of whichever party-led government. IT is not because it is a Swapo-led government and stop being insecure, don’t let your political insecurities cloud your judgement! * PERHAPS it was a wrong choice of words used by Ngurare to describe the planned march against corruption. Yes, he seeks publicity as a means of getting the point of this social evil across. I assume he will not be attending, so don’t discourage those who understand the purpose of the march. * I DOUBT Ngurare’s position in the ranks and files of Swapo Party and SPYL. Is he aware what the ACC is and why was it created. No wonder he invited (Paulus) Kapia to a meeting. Ms (Pendukeni) Ithana please call Ngurare to order and let him publicly apologise to the nation. * WHAT destruction is Ngurare causing in our country! * I READ in the newspaper that Swapo has instructed that the Minister to reinstate Titus Haimbili after a disciplinary hearing recommended his dismissal. What happened to zero tolerance on corruption? The jokes continue although no longer funny. Can’t wait for election day* THIS time Swapo has taken its power beyond edges. If Mr Haimbili is to be reinstated, then the same should be done with Mr Kandetu. We cannot afford to have untouchable individuals while others are easy prey to unfairly dismissals from their work.- Peace Watchdog* THE charges laid against Haimbili are minor compared to, for instance, the huge arrears allegedly owed or still owing by the CEO of the Agribank. Why do some go through disciplinary hearings and others not? Where`s the consistency? Or are a few granted immunity from paying lip service to corporate governance.
* MINISTER (Pendukeni) Ithana, we as a nation want the list of 200 people who were dumped live into the sea.* HONOURABLE Utoni Nujoma I respect you very much. However I love my church including the Pope.General* CRITICISM is sometimes good. Ndeshi and Jakes managed to amuse me in Wednesday’s edition. Keep it coming.- Crocker* WHY do the Police never make inquiries from the wife’s side if a man buys guns? Men are planning to kill us especially if there is no peace in the relationship. Namibians take action. How can such a man manage a gun if he is always under alcohol?
Money Matters* BANKING inquiry. I was shocked! Myself I do not benefit from my bank at all. Only the bank benefits from me. Why is it compulsory for one to save in a bank? * WHY are insurance policies cancelled if we can’t afford the premiums any more? It’s our money which we are paying just to lose it again. Can someone please explain? Education* THE problem is our education system. Let us fix this first, before we create new problems by introducing compulsory youth service. When a student fails, let him or her repeat until they pass.* OUTAPI senior officials, please stop humiliating teachers in front of learners and parents as you are busy doing. Poor performance is caused by many factors. Where is it written that teachers must be embarrassed in front of learners and parents ?* I FULLY agree with Theo. The youths of Namibia are on the whole undisciplined and disrespectful. It is because they think it is their right to act as they want, without cognisance of any rule or law. Then they cry to high heaven when any authority acts in retribution. Bring back corporal punishment.- Andrew * FIVE computers left packed in boxes for three years. What a good thing, albeit a downright waste of money. Teachers and pupils had to use their brains instead of machines. In And From the Regions* OMARURU Town Council please we people in Hakahana don’t see your progress. Please we want electricity. Everywhere you go people are using electricity but why not us councillor? * PLEASE Ministry of Health and Social Service we need more doctors for the Usakos Hospital. We have only one doctor here and he has too much work and people are waiting too long for help. Patients from Karibib, Tubusis, Otjimbingwe and Spitzkoppe are sent to Usakos Hospital to see the doctor.* ROADS Authority, forget ablution facilities along the national roads, think about the Groot Aub road, please.- Ross * AN open SMS to Nored and Ongwediva Town Council! Who is responsible for replacing dead bulbs-globes for street lights in Ongwediva town ? Most of them have been dead for more than two years now. Do not create opportunities for criminals to operate please.* THANK you Katuutire Kaura for pointing out that the daily shifting of the Kavango regional border into Caprivi will bring conflict.- Ntobolo, Windhoek* GOVERNOR and councillors of the Caprivi Region why are you so quiet about the boundary between Kavango and Caprivi or are you afraid that Swapo will chase you. We need our land. Bring the boundary back to its original before election. We need our western Caprivi very much.Road Hogs* THIS is for the driver of the Silver Jetta (registration supplied). On the afternoon of Wednesday, May 13, at 14h15 at the intersection of Robert Mugabe and Nelson Mandela Avenue, you cut me off, made a very rude gesture to me and proceeded to jump the red light, your driving sir is unacceptable and dangerous – everybody be warned! – Nicole Van Rensburg Please Help* DURING this global economic crisis we have to save by producing most of our food. A project on growing mushroom was on NBC two weeks ago but no contacts were given. They are not in the directory. Can you find their contacts for me please? – Can someone help out here please. – Newsdesk
* ON Monday, May 11, a lady picked up my seven-year-old missing daughter in the vicinity of Dorado at between 18h00 and 19h00, and dropped her at the Windhoek Police station. I am requesting her to call to this number 081-287-9555 because I want to thank her personally. Service Please* FRUSTRATING service. The banks have three tills but at busy times only one or two are open. Now you get businesses doing banking too. Can they please change this behaviour, let’s operate at least two. One for business banking and one for single people.- Concerned client Mariental.
* PLEASE Mariental Post Office, it’s very irritating and frustrating on pay day and pensioner day to see only one till operating with long queues. For buying Tango, for instance, you end up spending an hour. That’s poor service really.- Gino Martal.* DSTV, as a mini bouquet subscriber, please make available at least one SS channel for rugby viewing. I, and also others, lose out on competitions such as Super 14.- Rugby fan* WHAT happened to the FNB column that used to be in this paper? The one comparing our currency with those outside. Please bring it back.- This service is now being provided by Bank Windhoek, in advert format, and appears every day. – Newsdesk* THE ATMs at Anguwo and Nekuni are hopeless because there’s no money at all times. Bank Windhoek do something.- Twaloloka* IT is not fair that we waste our money on things that are not of quality here at Karibib OK Mini Mark. We are supporting you and we need fresh things.
* FNB Outapi branch must buy a back-up generator. We are suffering a lot when the power goes off.Labour Issues* THE Namibian Government, Ministry of Labour and Natau. Have we long distance driver got independence in Namibia or not. Until when must we plead to be seen as workers in an independent Namibia. What kind of rights do we have? No medical aid, no pension, no rest. But were a truck to make an accident, the whole country has something to say. * TO Mr T: If nursing comes out of your heart, you will bath, feed and make your patient’s bed. Most of nowadays nursing graduates do not do proper nursing, they think it’s just another job. People wishing to become nurses should be seriously screened, that will stop nursing from going down. ACC Alert* ACC Please come to the Suiderhof Base (in Windhoek) where soldiers getting a housing allowance while sleeping in the government barracks.City Fathers Please …* THE mayor and CEO of Windhoek Municipality, there is one thing that residents do not understand. We experience so much noise early in the morning every day. Are you not aware that not all of us are willing to get up that time ? Why don’t you respect others? Dustmen are not cleaning but blowing the waste everywhere. Our dustbins are left behind everyday with rubbish in. Stop disturbing us please. We want to sleep. The time of 04h00 is not written on the working calendar you gave to us.
